Hi, I am trying to chase down James Speisland (45 or older) and Heiko Speisland (18-26) who show up on the 1820 Rutherford County, North Carolina census. I see James Spicely on the 1840 Dinwiddie census, and I wonder if there is a record of him in Virginia before 1820. Other family members of James and Heiko moved to Stewart County, TN and Trigg County, KY and spelled their names "Spiceland". The family is thought to have its origin in a "Spies" or "Spees" Hessian soldier from the Revolutionary war. I would like to prove or disprove that James Spiesland is related to James Spicely.
