I know your post is old, but I've been trying to make a connection between Humphrey Fortune and a manifesto stating that a free Indian named Frank left her 4 young children with the parsonage (Capt. Taylor): George, Sarah, Humphrey, and Betty. She also asked that John Minter help her older son Martin become a carpenter. This was in 1751 in Essex.
I looked at the guardian records for the Parish and didn't see anything. I was just at he Library of Va. on Friday. I've tried to find something on ancestry with no luck so far. If anyone has anything I'd appreciate the help.
