Have shared this with the Middleton researchers at Rootsweb.com and thought I'd share it here.
Just to let you know the info currently being "accepted" as correct facts on Thomas Middleton Jr and Ann Bayne is incorrect.
So, it starts out in 1928 as Georgia family lore and in 2009 that family lore has been passed on, and has now become "accepted facts"....posted all over the internet by everyone that can copy and paste, but should instead do the reseach to see how this family that is in Charles and Prince Georges' Co., MD can be in Loudoun and Fairfax Co.,VA also at the same time. That fact was a red flag for me.
It started with
Hugh Calhoun Middleton 1928 his findings called The Middleton Papers which are now in the Semmes Collection
and from which
Semmes copied into his book from Hugh Calhoun Middleton's findings....
THE MARYLAND Semmes AND KINDRED FAMILIES, BY HARRY W. NEWMAN 1956
Daniel B. Lloyd copied almost word for word into his book from Semmes book, and cited also Hugh C. Middleton's findings...
MIDDLETONS AND KINDRED FAMILIES OF SOUTHERN MD, BY DANIEL BOONE LLOYD 1975
Beth Bland Engle copied from Semmes book and cited Hugh C Middleton's findings also...
THE Middleton FAMILY (INCLUDING MYDDELTON AND MYDDLETON), BY BETH Bland Engle 1972
And they all say the following.....
MIDDLETONS AND KINDRED FAMILIES OF SOUTHERN MD, BY DANIEL BOONE LLOYD 1975

THOMAS Middleton
Thomas Middleton, second son of Thomas and Penelope (Hatton)
Middleton, was born 1-29-1707/8 in Piscataway
Hundred of Prince George's County. He died probably in Loudoun
County, Virginia, after 4/13/1767. Purportably c1729 he married
Ann Bayne of the same vicinity. Supporting evidence is that a
grandchild carried the name of Anne Bayne Owsley. The name of his
children were furnished by a late historian of the family in Georgia:
Now, I've done the research myself. Thomas Middleton Jr was an Innholder and he married Ann Bayne both were born in Charles Co., MD and raised and died in MD. Thomas Jr is selling property in 1738 and called Thomas Middleton Jr of Charles Co., so he is not living in Loudoun Co., Va. 1739 he is licensed to keep an ordinary in his home in Newport, Charles Co. He is still alive and living in Prince George's Co., MD as late as 1776, where he gives a depo stating his age is 67, PGLR CC2:310, and in 1777 he is called Old Thomas Middleton, standing at a land commission meeting in Prince George's Co., PGLR CC2:352. Thomas is even called in one deed Thomas Middleton Jr of Charles and Prince George's Co. So I feel confident in saying that Thomas and Ann died in MD, probably Prince George's Co., MD, not Loudoun Co., VA.
Also found this, and the site is now down... but it shows how wrong info can be passed on...

Thomas died shortly before 14 December 1762 when his estate was appraised in Fairfax County VA by Holland Middleton, Walter Middleton and William Taylor. William Middleton was appointed administrator of his estate. Ronny O. Bodine]
That bit of information is taken from and reworded:
MIDDLETONS AND KINDRED FAMILIES OF SOUTHERN MD, BY DANIEL BOONE LLOYD 1975
In 1763 Thomas Middleton Jr was one of the purchasers at the estate sale of
William Owsley, deceased, of Loudoun Co., VA. The appraisement of this
estate had been made on 12-14-1762 by Holland Middleton and Walter
Middleton and William Taylor..
There is a Big difference between the two... the Owsleyfamily stated that Thomas died in 1762, but the source they took the info from says that it was William Owsley that died 12/14/1762 not Thomas Middleton Jr. And they keep stating Fairfax Co., VA, when everything I've seen states Loudoun Co., VA.
I guess they needed to make the info fit into their Middleton family.
I don't think the Thomas Middleton Jr in Lloyd's info is Thomas Middleton Jr husband of Ann Bayne. It could be Thomas and Ann's sons Thomas and Walter there with their cousin Holland.
The bottom line is, that the info put out and "accepted" regarding Thomas Middleton Jr and his wife Ann Bayne as having moved to Loudoun Co., VA, where they lived and died is incorrect.
The correct info is, that he was born, raised, died in MARYLAND.
