2. SAMUEL2 COE (William1) was born in 1791 in Loudoun County, VA. He moved with his parents to Frederick County, VA, probably sometime after 1801. A farmer and blacksmith, he first appears on record there August 3, 1820, when he purchased from John and Elizabeth Dick a tract of land containing 18 acres, located on both sides of Pack Horse Ford. Bordered by the properties of Samuel Scott and Joshua Gore, witnesses were James Coe, Casper Allemony and John Hutchinson. On April 26, 1824, he purchased 100 acres for $10 from John Bageant. Two years later he purchased 30 additional acres from Jacob Miller for $112.50.

Listed in the 1850 census of Frederick County with assets of $2,000, he lived with his son Joshua at Collinsville in 1860. He died September 7, 1872, on Timber Ridge, leaving a will dated October 6 of that year. Burial was at Timber Ridge Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

He married February 28, 1822, in Frederick County, VA, Catherine Bageant, born September 20, 1786, in Frederick County, MD, died December 9, 1855, daughter of John (a Revolutionary soldier) and Catherine (Whitnak) Bageant. Burial was at Timber Ridge Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

i. Joshua Grove, b. Jan. 30, 182?; d. Nov. 12, 1882; m. Nov. 28, 1850, in Frederick Co., VA, Mary Ann Gano, b. May 6, 1827, in Berkeley Co., VA, d. Nov. 26, 1871, at Timber Ridge, VA, daughter of James and Catherine Gano. A farmer, he died without children, leaving his estate to his nieces and nephews. On Sept. 28, 1855, he was mentioned in the estate account of John Bageant, a relative. Burial was at Timber Ridge Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
ii. Mary C., b. 1825; m. April 1, 1845, in Frederick Co., VA, George P. Ferguson; lived in Miami Co., KS. Children: Emily E., b. April 20, 1846; Samuel Pendleton, b. Oct. 20, 1849; Reuben Z., b. 1852; John Singleton, b. April 16, 1856; Virginia Belle, b. July 15, 1857; Lenora T., b. 1861; Anna L., b. 1863; Olla Russell, b. 1865
iii. JOHN W., b. 1826.
