Do you know if there is any correlation between your Carr family and the Allen family of Montgomery/Carroll Co VA? The reason I ask is that for several generations the first name Carr comes up in a couple of the Allen family lines.

Hello. Here is what I found in the book:

1. Dennis Fielder is listed in the June, 1793 court minutes. Topic was a wagon road in Elk Creek

2. John Fielder is listed in the July, 1794 court minutes. He was appointed to appraise some personal property

3. Donna Fielder is listed as being the Noble Grand Commander of The Order of Rebekah

I dont have an old map, however I recently seen a photograph of the Whitetop Hotel. I have lived only a stones throw from the Whitetop Station and never did i know that once a hotel was just across the road. I would love any history you may have also. Dennis Fielder is my husband's 5th great grandfather. I was at the Fielder Cemetery a couple of years ago. It was neat to be there. We live in Colorado.

How are you connected to the Fielder family? Bayne Fielder was a next-door neighbor to my husband's grandmother. The Fielder Cemetery is behind his house, though he is buried in the Jerusalem Church Cemetery.

Looking for information on Mason Pitts and wife Barbara Hackler other than found on ancestry.com They were married 13 Jun 1805 in Grayson County, VA and had several children.

Once child Sena is noted to be full blooded Cherokee Indian.

I remember my mother mentioned to me that we were part indian and that she had a grandparent was Cherokee, so wondering if this is the family she spoke about.

They moved to Sullivan County, IN by 1820.

I did find this family in Patrick co., VA in 1850 so your theory may be correct. It seems that the Goins were numerous on both sides of the VA-NC border in that area. I noticed that there was an Allen Goin living quite near to Henry and Zelphia. He is close in age to Zelphia, so he could be a brother.

Two researcher online posted that Zelphia was the daughter of James Stephen or Steve Goin, a son of Shadrack Goin. I did find a will for this James, but it only lists daughter Prudence and Betsy and Nancy as daughters.

I would find a local Latter Day Saints Family History Center and order the marriage records for Patrick Co., VA.

Nancy Baber married 1805 in Albemarle Co. to Kemp Thomas.
Her parents were John and Mary Baber. They went together to Wythe County following John's brother (James?)
Kemp and Nancy Baber Thomas remained in Wythe Co., but her parents moved on to Clark Co., Ky
Nancy and Kemp had 12 children, some moved to Grayson Co. and she was living there with one of her children when she died in 1880 at age 92 years.

I am trying to find out who the father of Elbert Slate Johnson was. His mom was Nancy Caroling Johnson. Elbert was born abt 1870 in Grayson county. Its possible his dad was Joseph Davis since Nancy married Joseph in 1863. Any help would be great.

Hi!
I'm looking for the correct path for my GreatGrandparents, James and Nancy Thorne. The 1900 census has them living in Grayson County. Their daughter, Mary, was my Grandmother.

According to family oral history, James was Cherokee and delivered mail on horseback. Nancy was French. It could be that James tried to hide his Cherokee heritage.

Mary's husband was Gurnie Windfield Adams from North Carolina. They moved to Mascot, Knox County, Tennessee.

I cannot locate my father's birth mother. Her name is Malinda Sawyers (I do not know her maiden name). She died when my father was born in 1914. Her spouse was Ervin L. Sawyers. I think they lived in Grayson County, at that time.

It looks more and more certain that this George Washington Grayson was born out of wedlock to George Washington Grayson born in VA in 1778 (?) and Rachel McCord of Kentucky. The following year, 1804, the father married Octavia Edmonds, an heiress. The baby of 1803 shows up in their household every year. Octavia's will says she has two children but names only one, the legitimate daughter Frances. Octavia died in 1808, the same year G.W.Grayson marrys a second heiress, Nancy Ann Carter of VA., hence he takes the 4 year old illegitimate boy back to Rachel who has married John Henry Walker. The child then shows up in the census for that family. He grows up and pushes west. There is plenty of info on him in later life. Three marriages, etc. He is my Gr. Gr. Time to stir the pot a bit. I did a search of messages and only found two hits with the name Shuler. I'm trying to put a lot of puzzle pieces together on this family. I don't have any specific questions yet, but I'll take any info that comes up.

Things like... is this part of the same Shuler family that was in Rowan County, NC? Was David Shuler(ca.1807) really the son of Michael Nicholas, Sr. and who were his siblings? Who did David marry?

Update on my research of my Akers/Hale line.

A before unknown cousin was located who is the great granddaughter of Henry Hale a brother to John Hale, my great grandfather. She stated that her mother (Mary Quinn) always told her and her brother they were not really Hale. They were AKERS. Her mother told them an Aker was adopted either by Henry Hale or his father John Hale, my great great grandfather.

Any one know of an Akers that was taken in or adopted by a Hale family in KY, TN, or VA?

Mary Ann Wilson marries Sydney Adams

I am a descendent of the male child reared by Mary and Sydney Adams until Sydney's death in June 1911. I know Mary was not the child's (James Kelly Adams)birth mother but do not know who either of his natural parents were. If you know anything that can assist us in figuring out the mess of documentation that plagued SW Va., WV, NC and TN, we would be quite grateful. I have been searching for a very long time and today it struck me why not to try a Message Board.
I would love to hear from anyone of Mary's or Sydney's families or anyone else who might be able to straighten out what we know and what we think we know. Make sense?
