Surnames: Wilbourn
Thomas Winfield Wilbourn was a miller in Halifax County, VA. He is my great, great, great grandfather. He was married to Phoebe Moore. Their son William Robert Wilbourn was born in Granville County, N.C., while his parents were visiting there. His birth may have been recorded in Halifax County, VA. when they returned. W.R. Wilbourn ran away from home at age 16 and enlisted for the Mexican War, but never saw action. He relocated in Lexington, VA in about 1848, and moved to Brownsburg in 1851. He did join the Confederate Army and was captured in the attack on Fort Sedgwick (March 1865) and was incarcerated at Point Lookout, Md.for several months. He was a harness maker and invented the Wilbourn Saddle. His grandson, Arthur Earl Wilbourn, was my grandfather. He was a graduate of VMI (04) and West Point (08). Would appreciate any info on Thomas Winfield Wilbourn and/or Phoebe Moore that can help me fill out Wilbourn genealogy charts.
