My great-grandfather was Joshua (Josh) Browning Walton, born in Richmond or Henrico County in 1832 or 1833. He died in Madison Heights, Amherst County, Va. (just across the James River from Lynchburg) and is burried in Mead Cemetary, Madison Heights as are his wife Fannie, and many of his decendents. His tombstone reads: Joshua B. Walton; Age 70; d: June 21, 1903. He married Francis (Fannie) Ann Calloway 08-15-1866 and they had 3 children: John William Walton b: 03-09-1868 who was a railroad worker & raised a family in Roanoke, Va.; Joshua (Josh) Thomas Walton b: 07-08-1870 who raised a family in Madison Heights, Va.; and Mary (Mollie) Ellen Walton b: 08-21-1872 who married William Marshall Ray and raised a family in Madison Heights, Va next door to her brother Josh. In my youth, I probably spent as much time at my grandmother Ray's residence as I did at my home located a block down the street.
During my youth, I don't remember hearing of a half-brother, but last year my brother ask me about a notation he had made many years ago regarding Josh B. The notation reads twice married, French decent; son named Joe. (I don't know if the "French decent" refers to Josh or his wife) That is all we know about that marriage. Based on the tie to Henrico County and the dates, Joshua B.Walton is probably the Joshua Walton Jr. to which you refer. Additional evidence in support is file v8t2809.ftw from a Genealogy CD that gives Joshua J. Walton & Elizabeth B. as the parents of Joshua B. Walton, just as you do in your post for Josh Jr.. I do not have any independent knowledge or evidence that they were in-fact his parents. One thing that makes me question the accuracy of the above mentioned file is the listing of M.D. Walton as a sibling of John, Josh & Mollie (no information - just a name.) I don't know who this could be.
I hope this is helpful.
Do you have information on Joshua J. Walton other than his 3-24-1829 marriage to Elizabeth Blackburn ???
