Christoph L.H. Hanewinckel came to VA from Germany at age 18 in 1866. He was the son of Rev. Christian Hanewinckel and Emilie von Hanfstengel. Christoph was also the nephew of Friedrick W. Hanewinckel who was a prominent tobacconist and German Counsel in Richmond, VA. in late 1850's. Another Aunt and Uncle of Christoph also came to VA and worked for the German Consulate- Edward W. de Voss and Meta Hermine Hanewinckel. The Austro-Hungarian government entrusted E.W. de Voss & Co. and F. W. Hanewinckel & Co. in Richmond with the purchase of its supplies. Christoph managed his Uncle Friedrick W. Hanewinckel tobacco farm in Charlotte Co., VA. It was in Charlotte Co., VA were Christoph married Martha Elizabeth Harvey in 1870. The tobacco farm in Charlotte, Co. was called "Forrest Dale". There is where my grandmother Mary Louise Hanewinckel was born in 1873. Mary L. married R. Nelson Guy in 1899. Christoph moved back to Richmond after the death of his wife Martha E. Harvey. Christoph went back to his home in Charlotte Co. in 1925 where he died at the age of 82. Christoph was buried in the family section in Hollywood Park.
