This looks like you are on the right track. From what you compiled, we don't really know if Daniel Dunevant died in Alleghany County, North Carolina or in Grayson County, VA, do we?It would be helpful to obtain a copy of his death certificate, if only you knew whom to contact.
I sent a message to redrob1546 who posted the tree on Ancestry listing Daniel Dunavant as the son of Ramsey Dunavant. He said "As for Daniel Dunnavant, I concluded his birth year from the 1850 US federal census that showed him as the head of household living next door to Thomas and Eliza with some of Thomas and Eliza's children living with him. He was shown as 35 years so 35 from 1850 would make him born in 1815."
The 1850 Henry County VA census can be found athttps://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11865-7537-21?c...
On the 1860 census for Henry County, you'll see that the names of some of his children match those living with Daniel Dunavant on the 1850 census referenced above.

Do you live close to an LDS Family History Center? If so, you might consider reviewing Henry County VA probate records on microfilm to look for a will of Ramsey Donavant/Dunnevant, etc. who is believed to have died between 1840 and 1850, and see if he names Daniel as one of his children.
See: General indexes to decedents, trusts, or wards 1777-1949 (Indexes will books, v. 1-20.) Family History Library US/CAN Film 31954
and Will books, v. 4-5 1831-1856 Family History Library US/CAN Film 31957
Another alternative would be to arrange for an interlibrary loan of the equivalent microfilm from the Library of Virginia.
