For decades the Thomas Harris who married Alice West has been confused with the Thomas Harris who died in IOW in 1672 due to him having a widow Alice that was assumed to be Alice West. The Thomas Harris d1672 was from Lancaster Co., VA and was not related to either the Charles City or Crixie England Harris families. He married 1st to Elanor George and had son John who died 1713 IOW and 2nd to Alice Newman and had son Thomas who married Judith Edwards and died in 1712 in IOW. The Thomas Harris who married Alice West is now accepted as the son of Sgt John Harris and his wife Dorothy, though her maiden name is again being uncertain. This Thomas Harris died in Charles City by 1677 when his widow Yvett (Hatcher) relinguished guardianship of his minor children. There are no Charles City records naming any of the children of this Thomas Harris and no record of his wife Alice except for an Alice Harris being transported in 1635, age 21, to Virginia. DNA has proven that the Thomas Harris d1688 and Edward Harris d1677 were brothers, sons of a common ancestor. It is logical to assume that these two were sons of Thomas Harris and Alice West due to the fact that both had male descendants named West Harris, at least a dozen born before 1800, though I have found no
documentary evidence for this connection in 50+ years of researching this Harris line. So if the Alice Harris that came over in 1635 was the wife of Thomas Harris, then they must have been married in England on one of his many trips there, and possibly arranged by their fathers, both of whom were sons of royalty.
