Betty, I was just reading an old post your wrote about 4 years ago...

Record of Persons who died during the year ending 1st of June 1850, Districk 31 in the County of Lee, State of Virginia. This Note was at the bottom of the page.

Epidemics rarely prevail in this County; But during the fall
and winter of 1849 Fever of a Typhoid type prevailed to a
considerable extent, though for the most part not in a malignant form;-During the month of August last Dysenteria
of a very malingnant character made its appearance in the
western part of the County, of which many young persons
( mostly children ) died.
