Hello Marianne,
I only recently discovered - like yesterday - the Hardy family of which you speak. However I am not researching for bloodlines, but the history of the slaves they owned. My ancestors were in slavery under either a William Hardy or Thomas Siebert Hardy. All of my Hardy ancestors (African Americans) born before 1860 list themselves from Maryland, and this puzzled me as to how they arrived in Grand Coteau, Louisiana or under what circumstances. My 3rd great grandmother, Amelia/Emily "Meloo" Hardy named her first son Thomas Siebert Lemelle (I have photos of him and 3 other children by marriage), born ca 1866, one year after emancipation and ten years before her marriage to Felicien Lemelle in Grand Coteau. In a Louisiana Genealogical website I found a James Hamilton Hardy, son of Thomas Siebert Hardy who moved his family from Maryland to Grand Coteau. If you have any information or photos you are willing to share, please contact me. I will be visiting Grand Coteau, LA in July and would like to find out the location of the plantation or domicile of my ancestors, or even if possible their grave sites. Any help appreciated! Best..Lyn
