YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Lorine Shelton Yancey, 92, of 31 Marantha Drive, departed this life Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at 3:30 p.m. at Dandridge’s Bergundi Manor, of natural causes.
She was born April 2, 1920, in Louisa County, Virginia, the daughter of Robert O. and Mary L. Fleming Shelton, residing in the area for 67 years, coming from Richmond, Va.
Mrs. Yancey was a housewife and foster care provider.
She was founder of the Beulah Baptist Church before joining the Zion Hill Baptist Church.
She was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church, the NAACP, and enjoyed gardening, quilt making and canning.
She married James Early Yancey on Dec. 20, 1941, and he died Jan. 27, 2002.
She leaves to mourn, four sons, Raymond E. Yancey of Youngstown, Roy C. (Marie) Yancey of Warren, Ohio, Andrew C. (Dianna) Yancey of Fredericksburg, Va. and Anthony W. Yancey of Youngstown, OH; two daughters, Ms. Joi Lei Yancey of Youngstown and Mrs. Cynthia L. (Dawan) Fuller of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Ms. Zelma Yancey of Warren, OH; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one-great-great-grandchild; and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at the New Bethel Baptist Church.
Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., two hours prior to service.
Burial will be at Mahoning Valley Memorial Cemetery.
