Classification: Query
The Southside Virginia Genealogical Society invites everyone to an evening with Carolyn Goudie, genealogist, librarian, and historical researcher, on Tuesday, June 5, at 7:00 pm at the R. T. Arnold Library in South Hill, Virginia. Ms. Goudie will speak about Freedom Suits, Petitions and other legal actions of Enslaved and Free African Americans, including some with Native American ancestry. Outcomes of suits and petitions of people of color from Southside Virginia (including Lunenburg County) were varied and sometimes surprising. The event will be an informative one for all genealogical and historical researchers. Admission is free. For additional information, contact Scott Wright at hobscowri@yahoo.com.
