I'm searching for more info on my g-g-g grandparents Andrew and Alice Jackson. I have found his census listings for 1860, 70 (with Alice) and 80.
1860: St. Anne's Parish, Albemarle County, age 25, worked as a carpenter. Lived at the home of a master carpenter named Henry Darrow, Darrow's family and about seven other carpenters.
1870: Rockfish Township, Nelson County, age 35, carpenter. Wife Alice, age 29. Children Nellie age 5 (my g-g grandmother), Horace age 3 (who died in 1871), and William age 1. All born in VA.
Also living with them were Elizabeth Lanum, age 35, Howard Lanum age 8 and James Lanum age 18. (I suspect Elizabeth was the widowed sister of Andrew or Alice. She was remarried and living with Howard, four households away from Andrew in 1880).
1880: Rockfish Township, Nelson county, age 47, carpenter. Remarried to wife Sallie age 24, with daughter Pearl b. Dec 1879 and stepson Ramond (Raymond?) age 5 (all b. in VA). Nellie and William were not living with them; they would have been around 15 and 11.
I doubt that Andrew abandoned Alice and their children since Nellie named my great grandfather Andrew, but since the children were not living with Andrew in 1880 I imagine it's possible that they were divorced and the children were living with Alice.
