I was told by a white Cabell that the name was spelled CABBELL hundreds of years ago in England and also in early America and it had nothing to do with separating whites from "darkies." Back in those days spelling was of little importance and one could spell ones name whatever way one liked. Must we bring race into every conversation?
My great grandmother was Adsonia Cabbell and I am afraid that Mr. Nicholas, as helpful as he tries to be, has many suppositions in his treatise due to misinterpretations of the facts and data. Sorry!
