Looking for Zadok Payne born in Virginia about 1776-80, thought to be from Culpeper or Northampton Co. . Parents are believed to be John Payne and Mary Payne. Legend has it that he ran away from home in 1794 to join troops called out by Washington to quell the Whiskey revolt. He was next known to have left Pittsburg Pa. for Kentucky. I have Zadock Payne born 1780 Md dying 9-6-1855 Fleming Co KY, death record says parents are John and Margaret Payne. Zadock married Mary Vangardt 9-24-1805 Fleming Co KY. They have kids Jeanetta, Martha Jane and Elijah

Zadok is my 3ggfather through his 1st son, John, who moved to Shelby Co, In. I have all 16 of Zadok's children and I think most of his grandchildren but I'm always looking for more of his descendants. Where do you fit in to his family? Would you like to share information?

I'm also looking for info on Zadok as my 3ggfather. He is supposed to be born in Eastern Shore, Maryland (from Jan Waddell) and his parents as Johna nd Margaret (Sutterfield) Payne and I've seen Maryland on on several census records. I, too, have seen that story about him joining the Whiskey revolt. I tried to verify it through Sam Payne where I saw it from his website but received no answer.

I am interested in any information you may have on the family of Zadok Payne. In researching the Campbell family, I discovered that James W. Campbell was married to Jennie Payne, daughter of Zadok...they lived and raised 10 children in Covington City KY. One of their children, Elisha, the ancestor I am researching.

Your Jennie Payne is actually a granddaughter of Zadok Payne. Zadok had 16 children. Child #9 James Vansandt Payne had 10 children with three different wives. Adelaid Jane (Jennie) Payne was child #5. She Married James Campbell and they had 8 children. I found this on a Joe Payne website. (www.joepayne.org/paynedna/945M/945M.htm) I hope this helps. By the way Zadok's 16th child, Janetta Payne Shields, is my great great Grandmother.
