YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Albert Harvey Barnette will be held Wednesday at the Union Baptist church.
Mr. Barnette departed this life Dec. 26, 2012, at Northside Medical Center.
Mr. Barnette lovingly known to his family and friends as “Big Al,” was born June 16, 1951, in Roanoke, Va., a son of George R. and Mattie L. Starkey Barnette.
He was formerly employed with Becks’ Sweeping as a driver and mechanic.
He was a member of the Union Baptist Church bowling league and was an outstanding bowler. He bowled and substituted with various leagues and teams throughout the Mahoning Valley. He received numerous awards, including six rings for bowling an astonishing 300 games.
He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, who taught his family the importance of education. His caring heart and warm spirit will be missed by those who loved and knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, the former Herma Brown, whom he married Aug. 29, 1982; his loving children, Donnie T., Albert W., Camella L. Barnette, Karl L. Wilkins Jr., and Keisha D. Scott; five brothers, Allen, Lorenzo, Robert, Van and Tora Barnette; two sisters, Janice Baldwin and Olivia Barnette; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a host of other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Timothy Barnette; and his grandparents, Albert and Rosie Bell Starkey.
The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment will be at Tod Homestead Cemetery.
