Hello. I descend Mary Ward Lasley and we also have the story that she was one-half Cherokee. I may have an answer for you one day, as my Aunt is a direct female line descendant, and she may be tested, genetically, which would be proof, one way or another. I would be curious about how your version of the story went. Mine is "When I was a little girl, my granmother Mamie Lilly Arnold me told the that her grandmother told her that her grandmother was a Cherokee Indian." My grandmother also said that Mary Lasley, daughter her grandmother, daughter of the full blooded Cherokee whose name she did not know, used to work with herbs and go out to tend sick people. She believed she had learned some herbal medicine from her Native American heritage.
