I am trying to identify the parents of Henry Browne who was the first owner of Four Mile Tree plantation. Henry was an early emigrant from England. He was in Surry County by the 1630s and died there in about 1661 or 1662. Early records indicate that Henry was in the Assembly, served as a Justice, and as Vestryman of Southwark Parish. He is referred to as Colonel Henry Browne in later life. He was apparently a croney of Govenor Berkeley, (he named a son after the Govenor,) He close friend and neighbor of Col. Thomas Swann. His wife Ann (possibly Flood) married Col. Thomas Swann after Henry died.
My information is that Henry Browne and Ann had at least two children: a son, Berkeley Browne; and a daughter Mary Browne. Mary married William Browne who died in Surry County in 1605 leaving a will of which I have found an abstract.
The Morman site: FamilySearch.org lists an Ancestral File on this family. Henry is found as Henry Thomas Browne, b. about 1598 in England. AFN 1L-49-MLW. Henry Thomas Browne's parents are given as Matthew Browne of Bechworth Castle : b. 1574, d. 1603; and Jane Vincent: b. about 1575, d. after 1629.
Does anyone have information on this Henry Browne which would either verify or refute this purported connection between Henry Brown, founder of Four Mile Tree, and Matthew Browne of Bechworth Castle? Any information concerning the ancestors of Henry Browne, his wife's actual identity, or the ancestors of his son in law William Browne, would be appreciated.
