Dwan - I am the person who started this query in 2000 - looking for info on Ida Lownsberry - but I do not seem to be getting anywhere. I know you told me to email you- but somehow life got in the way! What do you know about her family. Do you have an obituary - that you would share? Do you know how she came to be in VA?
I have finally figured out how she fits into our CRAIG family. My father (1887-1948) Thomas Henry Craig was son of a Methodist Episcopal minister, Luther Clarke Craig,(1864-1943) who preached all over northern AR and is remembered to this day up there. It is unfortunate, but my father was estranged from his family and I never knew anything about them - even my mother did not know. I grew up in Ohio and married a Texan 64 years ago. We have lived "happily ever after" here in Texas. I am 84 and my vigorous spouse is 94. I have put together the following bits.
Thomas A Craig(1832-1892)b. in TN-licensed to preach in Methodist Epis. Church South in 1850. Marr. Louisa Robertson in TN about 1860. They had Martha(called Mattie) born about 1860 in AR. Next- Luther Clarke(my Grandfather-mentioned above) was born in AR in 1864. I have seen that they had three additional children but I know nothing about them. Mattie married Henry Lownsberry and had(I think!)Ida. Someone else posted on this site that Ida had a brother named Craig Lownsberry - which would fit since Mattie's maiden name was Craig (I have a son Craig Johnson)
Mattie's brother, Luther, had my father, Thomas Henry, and six other children. Two died as infants but the others married and had families. Since my father never talked about the Craigs, I know very little about them.
During the summer of 1937 or 1938, my oldest brothet Tommy who is now 90, stayed with Aunt Ida and Uncle Otho He remembers a lot about that visit but was not sure how we were connected with her or how he came to be visiting them!!I would really appreciate anything you could tell me about her. I could not find the Lownsberry's on the census.
Thank you from Patricia in Texas
