My grandfather, William Meriwether Belfield, owned the log cabin store on top of mill pond hill. He was born in 1872, & died around 1934, when I was 3+ yrs. old. He lost a leg due to diabetes, therefore was wheel chair bound.
The log cabin store is still standing in the same origninal spot, now in a fork between two roads. It was added to considerably, and became a living room for a house.
The stand for selling produce eventually was moved across the road onto the property of a mayor of Montross, Nan Sumner, for her two granddaughters' summer playhouse.
I and three sisters grew up on a farm on Peach Grove Lane, across the woods from Mrs. Sumner, which also had belonged to my grandparents.
