"THE STRATFORD HOTE. Orginally known as teh Bollingbrook Hote, this building was completed in 1828 and was located on the northeast corner of Bollingbrook and Second Streets. A fourth story was added to the structure in 1857. During the Civil War, Confederate officers frequently roomed at the hotel. In 1906, the building again underwent renovations to modernize the facility and the name was changed to the Stratford Hotel. The hotel contained 60 rooms. An office, wriiting room, and sitting room fitted with leather easy chairs were located on the first floor. The hotel also featured a spacious dining room and bar stocked with imported and domestic wines, liquors, and cigars. The entire building was heated by steam and lighted by electicity. An advertisment for the hotel also boasted of ample bath facilities. The buisiness closed in the 1920's, most likely due to completion from the larger Hotel Petersburg. The building was demolished in 1932.
