I have a picture book of photos taken before and after the civil war. Some are tintypes and have the names of Rook, Clement, Tillar and Birdsong in them. Most do not have names. This book was in my family but Clement and Rook are the only two where I know of a connection.
My surnames are Vincent, Rainey, Harris, Saunders, Lee, Taylor, and Thomason. I do have a letter written from Petersburg after the war which mentions Hattie Jones and Walter Vincent.
There is an autographed photo of General Robert E. Lee in it.
One of the Photography Studies was C. W. Minnis, 17 Sycamore Street, Petersburg and another from Lazelle's Execelsior Gallery, Petersburg. (has neg. # on the back), #39 Sycamore Street.
Some are the tin types are from Badger and Cleaton, Traveling Photographic Artists.
Another from Petersburg has Rees and Minnis at 13.5 Street. Petersburg, VA
Another is from J. W.Watson Photographers, Raleigh, NC and yet another is from Vannerson Photographic Artist, 77 Main Street, Richmond, Va. and another from J. R. Rockwell 13.5 Sycamore Street, Petersburg, Va.
DOES ANYONE KNOW these studios and where I can find information on the photos?
