Unfortunately, I do not know the answer to either question. She seemed to be indicating that they were planning to purchase to home, but I don't know if they actually did. You might try to do a deed search for the property, which might provide some information. If this property was part of that owned by Abner Thayer who died in 1859, then he was a carpenter and miller. The farm would primarily have been used to grow their own food and feed for their animals, however Abner owned at least 354 acres. I show Abner as having purchased 88 acres from Frederick Garner in 1850 and 266 acres from Mineva Rush in 1854. I cannot definitively identify the actual land involved from the deeds. One would have to do a deed search for the actual property from the present time back. I live in Pennsylvania, so I have to rely on info posted in my families genealogies and on research I have conducted in Randolph County. I have not done a deed search as such on that property.
