I'm looking for information on Elizabeth Pewett from Lunenberg County, VA or possibly Sturgis b.1810 d. 25 Jun 1894 in Chincoteague Island, Accomack, Virginia, USA. She married John J Russsell, Sr. b. 1812 d. 17 Sep 1884 in Chincoteague Island, Accomack, Virginia, USA.

I have conflicting information about Elizabeth's Surname. I've found documentation that will take me in either direction, specifically marriage records. I'm looking for out-right details if you are the person who can help me break this brick wall or suggestions about how to proceed in determining which surname may be the correct one. What documentation should I look for? The records for this timeframe in Chincoteague appear to be terse but I'm so confused I may be missing the obvious.
