Hi - I'm a LeHew/LaHue researcher and some of them married into the DAVIS family.

- Leah LEHEW m. George DAVIS, son of John Davis and Mary Helve. George was born about 1780 in Wythe County, Virginia. He died about 1825 in Grayson County, Kentucky.

- Spencer LEHEW m. Margaret DAVIS, daughter of John Davis and Mary Helvey, about 1810 in prob Wythe County, Virginia. Margaret was born in 1786 in Wythe County, Virginia. She died on 24 Feb 1871 in Harrison County, Indiana. She was buried in Boley-Lahue Cemetery, Jackson, Harrison County, Indiana.

Hello, I am looking for information on the Samuel Davis Family that was in the townfork settlement in North Carolina. I am a descendent of Samuel Davis B abt 1726 Virginia, who moved to the townfork settlement with his family, John Davis b abt 1749 Virginia, Charles davis b abt 1752 Virginia, Sampson Davis b abt 1756 Virginia, William davis b abt 1754 Virginia, and George davis bn abt 1758 Virginia. I found this info on a townfork website buy judyscard? I would love to learn about how we got across the ocean from England, but cannot find any info on these family members from Virginia and not sure of the years of birth. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I have been researching my family tree for years now but I am unfortunate in the I cannot trace past my 2nd Great Grandfather Frank Godney. He first appears in Hull, Yorkshire, England in 1871 on a fishing vessel aged 16 (1855). His place of birth is cited as Virginia, South America. All census records thereafter cite place of birth as New York.
I am inclined to think that Virginia is the place to look and perhaps the reason for the change in description is that many people may not have heard of Virginia??
Married in 1876, the certificate states that Frank's father is a William Godney; occupation Soldier. This is all I know and I am keen to learn more. Can anyone please help? Many Thanks

I have Henry Jordan Sr (b.1830) as father of Horatio. These Jordans were in Hancock/Oglethorpe/Wilkes counties very early and were associated with the Hoggs there. Radford married James Hogg Sr's granddaughter Elizabeth, and she is bequeathed $$ in the will he made 4/4/1803. By 1810, the Hoggs along with several other families, including the Jordans, had moved to MS Territory, which became AL in 1819. It was a family move, and I think the Radford Jordans went in that group. I have records for them once they get to area. This was a dangerous place then because of Creek Indians and Jordans were among petitioners for more federal troops. Wm. Henry Jordan (m. Mary Elizabeth Mathes) is my mother's maternal great-grandfather---. Is there a living male who could be part of DNA testing?

father of william boneparte burton

My great grandfather was William Boneparte Burton married to Nancy Ann Burton who is from another Burton line. A relative of mine (Ruth Southers Burton, the daughter of Cyrenus Burton and Laura Childers) sent me many letters from the nursing home before she passed away. In those letters she states that Ambrose Seber Burton and Sally Judd?? were never married and that Ambrose went on to marry several other Burton relatives. She claims that William Boneparte was the only illegitamate son of Ambrose. I can't seem to verify this on any census records. All records indicate that Arthur was William Bonepartes real father.I have been thinking all this time that Ambrose was my actual 3rd great grandfather but now I am assuming it is Arthur. Does anyone know anything about this?

I agree, I looked for my moms ggreatgrandfather for years. Thought he had died right after 1880 but on a fluke I found him listed on the census records in 1900 under a different age. He had remarried and a granddaughter living with him. and filed for his pension from the war in 1901 and then found him again in 1910 where I promply lost him again. but at least now I know he did not die until after 1910. Good luck and I hope you find her.

I found two within the time lines that could have been yours but after copying them down I lost both. But there was nothing to indicate that they were correct. I also can not find her living with any John Jenkins in 1870.

I did find however an Elizbeth Jenkins age 4 living with a John SMith and his wife in FLoyd co. Va. you might want to check out and see who this John Smith married. its possible that his wife was related to John Jenkins. I thought Maybe I could help but did not. Also did you look for an Obit at the local liberay where she died. They might have one on here that would go more into detail on her life than the death record did.

Yes. She married my great grandfather William Charles King in 1891 in Baltimore city, MD. She shows up in the 1900 census living in Norfolk, VA. My problem is that I have no idea where she was from birth till she got married. Family stories say her parents died when she was young and then went to live in Ireland with her mother's family.

I've searched emigration records and US census records for the time period and haven't come up with anything or least anything verifiable. Its unfortunate that the British government decided to scrap the Irish census between the years of 1870 and 1890. Thats the exact period of time, I'm interested in. If you can be of help that would be great, otherwise thank you very much for your inquiry.

Only thing my mother's marriage certificate states that they home town was Virgina.It has to be in the 1700 because my grandmother was born in 1884. One option you could consider would be to order a copy of Frank Williams' original Social Security Application under the Freedom of Information Act. The original record usually contains the applicant's parents' names.

I am inclined to think that George Anderson was really born in Pennsylvania and Mary Ball Anderson was really born in Ohio, as they are listed on the 1850 census in Hancock, VA (later West Va) and on the 1860 census in Oakland, Schuyler, IL.
So many of their children were young when their father died, they may not have known where he was born. In census records after 1880 which include members of this family, most indicate that George and Mary Anderson were both born in Virginia. This may not be correct.

I have not been able to find out George Anderson's parents' names.

If you have trouble finding George and Mary Anderson in Hancock County, VA in 1850, just enter Geo* in the first name field, or enter Mary in the first name field.

It is quite possible that George Anderson died between 1860 and 1870. His children seem to be scattered among several families on the 1870 census.
--James Anderson, age 17-18 and Newton Anderson, age 11, are living with the family of Daniel and Cynthia Sandridge in Oakland, Schuyler, Illinois on the 1870 census.
--John Anderson, age 13 is living with the family of Ishmael and Elizabeth Hills in Oakland, Schuyler, Illinois on the 1870 census.
--Sarah E. Anderson, age 19, born in Virginia, is living with Isaac and Elizabeth Snowden in Oakland, Schuyler, Illinois on the 1870 census.
I have not found Martha/Emma in 1870.

I have collected a few items that lead me to believe that Martha Emma Anderson Sloan's parents are George Anderson and Mary Ball (not John Anderson).
The obituary for Emma Anderson Sloan states that she was predeceased by her sister Mrs. Steve Parry.
There is an Anna B. Parry, wife of Steve Parry, living in Astoria, Fulton, IL on the 1920 census.
She is a widow on the 1930 census, same location.

There is a problem with the discrepancy in the place of birth of Mary and George.

Did you notice that on the 1880 census, Emma Sloan is listed as born in West VA?
On the 1850 census, George and Mary Anderson are living in Hancock County Virginia, which became part of West Virginia when the latter state was formed after the Civil War.
On that census, George is listed as born in PA, and Mary in Ohio.
There is a Newton Anderson, son of George Anderson and Mary Ball listed here:

John Anderson and Mary Ball

I am having problems finding any information on John Anderson and Mary Ball Anderson. Their children were John, James, Newton, Emma L., and Sarah. There are two other children but on the obit that I have it just list them under their husband's names (Mrs. Steve Parry and Mrs. James Wright). Emma L. Anderson is my 3rd great grandma, she was born 2 Jan 1855 in Virginia. I know that her father was born in Virginia as well but unsure of the date.

Have you searched for a "local history" book that may have been published for Fairfield County or for the town in which they lived?

Are there any known siblings for either of them?

Brodnax Slaves Origin

William Brodnax purchased land in Leakesville, NC in 1811. His son Robert moved there and ran Cascade Plantation. They brought a colony of slaves with them from Brunswick, VA.

Does anyone know where they acquired their Brunswick slaves? Or when?

I am at a brick wall in tracing my ancestors back to Africa.

I'm researching the Lambert family and have run into a problem with Phillip Lambert. In have found Phillip born around in 1727 in Virginia who married Sarah Thompson and Amy Pearsall. I have also run into Phillip born in England and transported as a convict. He is born around 1727 and married Mary Ann Henderson. My problem i with their children as the same children are listed for the two couples. Can anyone help me with this.

A suggestion: share more information, including the place of residence in various years of each couple, the names and dob/place of birth of the children. Also name your sources ("the same children are listed..." by whom? or what registry?) and share transcriptions of any/all records you have accumulated. One has the impression that you are working from a sketchy, unsourced online family tree...?

In general, trees this early are suspect (as all online trees are) and need to be verified with one's own original research - which of course is what you are doing! But I'm suggesting I wouldn't let someone else's family tree disconcert you or influence you, especially branches this early, which are often fraught with errors.

I was hoping that someone on this board goes to the Library of Virginia occasionally. I need to have someone look up on the birth index for my great grandmother. I have the info from her death certificate, but need the info from her birth record to go farther in my research. I needed to verify date & place of birth and both parents name and whatever other info is provided on the birth index.

I actually did make a one time trip to the library recently, but couldn't find anything in the jurisdiction where I thought she was born. It was only after I got home, that I learned that the library had a general birth index. I would greatly appreciate this and could provide a similar look up at the Maryland State archives if needed. I'm trying to find out in what county in Virginia, Benjamin Franklin Davenport and Jane Parr/ or Marr married.
Benjamin F. Davenport was born 1813 in Va and Jane Parr/ or Marr was born about 1816 also in VA.
I have no record of where in VA they were born, the next record I have of Benjamin and Jane is in the 1840 census living in Marengo Co, Alabama.
After that they moved to Kemper Co. Mississippi

I'm hoping if i can find a marriage license/ record or land transaction or any legal document that might have where in Virginia they were born and maybe even who their parents were by name.

Richmond is an independent city. Since Marguerite was born in 1900 in VA, she should show up either in the 1900 or 1910 census in VA IF she was raised there.

Did the family stay in VA or move? I searched on all Hannigans in Richmond without turning up a Gerald or Marguerite.

I don't know if this is an independent city or if it is a county.Her parents were Gerald Hanigahn and Marguerite Lee Carter.I have my mom's marriage license and SS# and they all say that the parents were from Virginia. As far as i know Dan and Anges were not married. The birth certificate was alater thought because elmer found out homer was not his dad. i've looked into the Daniel W , but didnt want to just put anyone down. I can't find anything tying Dan to elmer. So im not sure if he even know about him. Thanks for all the help. i will keep looking. gege clark. p.s on the tree i couldnt put dan as elmer father plus homer it just didnt want to work. is there a way to put stepdad on the line? with out haven dan be married to anges.

I can't connect ny great grand father George to John and Amelia. My boyfriend who has been doing this fir 27yrs said I nay have made a mistake. I will be in Spotsylvania the 3rd week of april to do some research. There is also a name change Dobyns or Dobbins which is my spelling
