AN EARLY KLICKITATER IS GONE - In the early days of Klickitat, from 1862 on up to 1865, Isaac McFarland and wife were residents of this valley, and are remembered by some of our older citizens. Mr. McFarland died in The Dalles in 1869; and a few days ago his wife passed away in that city, at a ripe old age. She was born in 1817, in Ohio, and was married in 1832 to Isaac McFarland. Together they crossed the plains to Oregon in 1852 and settled in Rogue river valley, where their oldest son, Cornelius, saw service during the troubles with the Indians. Later they located at Oregon City and came to The Dalles in 1854. The husband was engaged in steamboating from the locks to The Dalles and was the builder of the third steamer on the river, the Wasco, which was launched in 1855. Missionaries had visited The Dalles from time to time but the organization of the Methodist church was perfected at her home in '56. With the history of that church she has been closely affiliated ever since.
