The 1860 census for Eola, Polk County, Oregon
Moses Clark, age 24, farmer, born in Illinois
Lucinda, 23, born in "Ovy" The "O" is used for many states, but appears to be just a squiggle, possibly representing the enumerators @ ampersand sign.
Jeremiah 2, born in Ogn
Frank 5/12
The 1880 census for "not stated", Whitman County, WA
Moses Clark 50, born in IL, to father born in KY, mother in NJ
Amanda, 45, born in Missouri to both parents born in Arkansas
--"appears" to be a different wife than in the 1860 census.
Jeremiah 23, born in "do", meaning ditto down from Amanda's "Missouri", the 1860 does him born in Oregon. In the census, when there is a second wife that wasn't the mother of the children, often times the children will show the birth place of the current mother, even though the real mother was born somewhere else. So, the census birth place of a mother can not be always deemed accurate.
Frankie, age 18, daughter, born in Oregon.
Charles 16
William 12.
A "Redline2007" had Moses Clark in his tree, showed him in Beaver Lake, Alberta in 1901. I sent a request to read this thread.
