I didn't find anyone with the family name of "Mercer" or a similiar spelling in the Will Abstracts of Brooke County, (West Virginiaa 1797-1849 book.
I did check in another book I have that covers all of Virginia for the years 1632-1800. It only lists the names of the people having wills and inventories. I did find Mercers in the following counties: Berkeley, Brunswick, Essex, Frederick, Isle of Wright, Lancaster, Norfolk, Southampton, and Spotsylvania. If you have any first names you would like me to check in this book, let me know. Good luck in your search.
