I'm researching family members who lived in Pittsburgh, and I found that 2 of my ancestors were married in Wellsburg, WV in 1918. I realize that Wellsburg isn't too far from Pittsburgh, but I'm trying to understand why they wouldn't get married in Pittsburgh. They were both born and raised in Pittsburgh, and all of their families lived there. They continued to live in Pittsburgh after they were married. We have no other family connections (that I'm aware of) in West Virginia.
I suppose my question is due more to the fact that I'm not familiar with the area. In the early 1900s, was it common for Pittsburgh families to travel into West Virginia (specifically Brooke County)? Any other info I should know?
Thank you!
