Maiden name of Phebe Bozman, b.1810

Phebe was the wife of the Wilkes Bozman, b. 1802, and was probably married in Brooke Co. ca 1825, as they were in Brooke with 3 children under 5. Not found 1840. By 1850 were in Steubenville, where they stayed. Speculation is that Phebe' maiden name was Clendenin or something similar. They are not found in Brooke marriage lists under Bozman or Bosman. Is anyone researching these families in Brooke who has any ideas to help me? Thanks, Sally

Frankie Cresman b 1892 d 1997. want parents and descendants

Seeking parents and descendants of Frankie M Cressman born 14 July 1892, died 13 Mar 1997 in Los Angeles, California. She married Vernon Pennington Jones 12 Aug 1911 and had at least the following children: Vera Louise Jones, Frank Cressman Jones, Clifford Patrick Jones, Marian E Jones and Ruth Marie Jones.
In the 1900 census of Tooele County, Utah she was listed as the daughter of Alexander and Mary J Frazier who had been married 1 year. Frankie was listed as born Jul 1892 and “at school.” Mary J Frazier had had one child who was living, which would, of course, be Frankie.
In the 1910 census of Salt Lake County, Utah the “Frazer” family includes four children – Henry T, Joseph A, Rose J, Jesse B, plus the stepdaughter Frankie M Cressman, age 17. The father is a railway mail clerk; the mother has had 5 children and all are living.
The 1911 marriage record which took place in Salt Lake County, Utah shows Vernon was 30 and Frankie 19 when they married.
In the 1930 census of Rose, Bingham, Idaho, Vern P Jones is a farmer, living with his wife Frankie M, and children as given above.
A 1946 obituary of Vern Jones indicated that after farming in Idaho the family moved to California where he died. Frankie’s 1997 California Death Record was filed revealed she married again to Glen Varvell Stambaugh sometime between 1946 and 1954.
The 1900 census gave her mother’s name as Mary J. Another record gave her mother’s maiden name as Reynolds. So it is possible her mother’s maiden name is Mary J. Reynolds. All that is known of her father’s name is that it was Cressman, Cresman, Crismon, Krisman, Chrisman, etc.
Looking at WV Culture site, I can give you the three wives and marriage dates for Charles Edward HISSOM (1876-1970):

1st - married 17 Nov 1895, Waverly, Wood County, WV
Cora Owen BALLENTINE, born 27 July 1876 -died 25 Feb 1905.

2nd - 3 March 1906, Ohio Co., WV
Blanche "Lottie" McINTYRE, born 1884, Wood Co- died between 1918-1919.
I could not find a death date or certificate for Lottie, so she is a mystery as far as parents' names. She stated on the 1910 census that her father was born in Maryland and her mother in West Virginia.

3rd - married 20 December 1919, Pleasants Co., WV
Emidilia A. "Emma" JOHNSON, born 1873, WV.

Charles's parents are Henry HISSOM, born about 1830, Ohio and Zenda Vesta UMENSTETTER, born about 1843 Monroe Co., Ohio.

Hope this helps,
Laura

I need some help sorting out the Swearingens in Hancock/Brooke County, WV in 1850. I have Karel L. Whyte's book but the particular Swearingen I'm looking for is not found in it.

I have a Henry D. Swearingen, born about 1830 in either WV or PA, who was living in Hancock County during the 1850 census. He is a laborer for Joseph Silverthorn. I am able to track Henry D. to Meigs County, Ohio in 1860-1870, to Brooke County WV in 1880 and then to Midway in Washington County PA by 1890s. He died in 1892 in Midway.

Henry served in the Civil War from Meigs. He first married Mary (widow of Samuel Kirkendall) in Meigs about 1860, and later Mary J. Hand in 1877 in Washington County but not far from Dallas, WV. Mary was the daughter of John and Sarah Hand.

Can anyone help me sort out which Swearingen family Henry D. belongs to in Hancock County WV in 1850?

Thanks,

Rick Wilson
New York, NY
rwilson7@aol.com

There are many unanswered questions. Norine, Phillip, and possibly Anna were left by their father at a Residential School in Griffin Creek, Peace River, NWT at a very young age. His first wife, Minnie was rumored to have died in a school fire. There may have been foul play. JDM served time for cattle rustling. His common-law wife gave testimony against him at his trial.

Re: Campbell or Everett - Brooke County Early 1800's - Gordon connection?

I have non-Campbell family lines in Beaver County who married Gordons, but have really not tracked those Gordons because they were an indirect line to me.

For sure there was a Beaver County Gordon married into the Torrence family. Ada Ruth Gordon married Orville T. Torrence. Both died in Beaver County, Ada Ruth in 1987. Ada Ruth was the daughter of Millard Gordon and Elizabeth Coulter.

Another, Eleanor Gordon, married James Cross in Beaver County; he died in Beaver County in 1836 and she in Iowa in 1864. They were the parents of Boston Newton Cross who married Margaret Longstreth; some of their descendents stayed in the Washington County PA area and others migrated West to Kansas/Iowa/Nebraska. Ties to the Swearingens and others.

There is a John Gordon who married Mary McKinnon in East Liverpool, Columbiana County Ohio.

I looked up some of your other posts and found it interesting that you mentioned Rochester PA.

My Campbell/Everett line migrated from Brooke County VA/WVA. One of their sons, my great grandfather, came back to Beaver County PA, specifically Rochester PA. Having my own issues in carving out the Campbell line, but for sure they were not descended from the "Bethany" Campbells. On the Everett side, I can't definitively tie my Everetts to the Dedham Mass Everetts, but feel sure there is a link there. In my research on the Everetts, I am stopped in Brooke County.

None of the above is much help to you. But it might be interesting to exchange information on our respective Brooke County lines, as you never know what might jump out at us.

Re: Campbell or Everett - Brooke County Early 1800's - Gordon connection?

Has anyone from these Campbell and Everett lines heard of a Gordon connection in their families? My 3rd great-grandfather lived in the Brooke/Hancock County area in the early 1800s and moved to Beaver County, PA between 1850-1860. My reason for inquiry is that I have perfectly matched 37/37 DNA markers with the descendants of Richard Everett of Dedham, Mass - the same line as these Everetts spoken of here. What I cannot figure out is where the break occurs or even which line (Everetts or Gordons) that it is in. Any help would be appreciated.

I see 3 of your people married Willisons. My Rhoda Willison married Noah Whitehouse Coffman in 1830 in OH. I have the Coffman line, but I don't have any other Willison people. Have no idea who they were or where they lived, before they moved to OH. My people moved a lot from Ma, RI,NY VTto OH, VA, TN and points north or west. Movingest people I ever saw. Well, they couldn't hold a candle to us, because my father was addicted to the construction game--big game like Hoover Dam and Parker on the Colorado River. We moved every 2-3 years and sometimes every few months. My education didn't suffer but my brothers had a bad time. If my husbasnd hadn't come home from the Navy when he did I might have ended up in Brazill with my parents. Crazy. Hope you can find some connection to my Rhoda. She was my 2nd great grandmother.
Thanks for clearing that up. I know of the Mingo Creek Ralston family, Rev Samuel RAlston of Scotland, mother Ann ?, & wife are also buried at the cemtery at Mingo creek. He was a preacher of the church there, grad of the Glasgow College in Scotland. He came to the US after 1785 I believe & his mother Ann joined him. No news on his father yet. I have more in files on his family.

I am not researching the Wood Family, but I can tell you more about Sally Lawson. She was born 26 Dec 1770 in NC. Died 18 Mar 1862 Big Mocassion Creek, Scott, VA. Her parents were William Lawson (1731,Scotland - 1826, VA). The English gave him the name of "The Rebel" during the Rev. War where he served as a Sgt. Her mother was Rebecca Jane Bank (1735, NC - 1827, VA). I have a lot of info on the Lawson lineage but I have hit a snag with William's GF. There's about a 250 years gap. If you know anything, please pass it along. Good luck with your searches!!!!

I would really like to know more about my grandmother. My e-mail address is sayhitosusie@hotmail.com.

John McCrea m. Martha Wright, Brooke, VA 1846

I'm researching my gr-gr-grandparents John McCrea and Martha Wright, who married in Brooke in 1846. John died in New Cumberland, Hancock in 1870 and Martha in 1810. Their son John is my gr-grandfather, but maybe someone knows more about them thru their eldest son William who served in the 1st WV regiment in the civil war?

Do you have any for any Wrights? I'm trying to find the family of my gr-gr-grandmother Martha Wright, who married John McCrea in Brooke in in 1846. All I have for her is the last name and from the 1880 census that she was born in VA ~1827, her father was born in England and her mother in PA.

But I'm assuming she was also born in Brooke and her parents had settled there.

Re: Campbell or Everett - Brooke County Early 1800's - Gordon connection?

I've got an old diary written in 1875 by John Oswald Marsh that mentions a John Gordon who must of lived in the northern part of Brooke County. May be a relation of your Gordons but I don't have a lot of details. Just thought I'd throw that out there if your interested.
I also had a Amos Gordon in my background. He was from Kentucky, lived to be in his 80's and died up around Detroit, Michigan in the early 1980's.
Scott
