I cannot "thank you" enough. I will come down to the library this weekend, now that I know what I am looking for. I am thrilled to see the 1930 census that has Arno and his sister Bernice listed. That gives the story some validation. From what I read in your first reply, the school doesn't seem like an orphanage. It seems more like what we would think of as a "shelter." I wonder why they tell the story of being "orphans?" We'll probably never know now, since Eunice was the youngest and she just passed, but I am curious.
