I have been researching the Allen family for several years. My line (so far) is back to Augustin Allen. He lived from around 1780-1861. During the 1840 until his death, he is listed in Pocahontas Co VA/WV. Recently, I found reference to this family in Pendleton, Bath, Rockingham and Botetourt counties. They also married into the Poage, Argabrite, Duffield, Barlow families
This week I found a probate (estate) for a Thomas Allen and Augustin bought several items when his estate was sold. John Allen was the executor of the estate. Thomas died late 1849 in Pocahontas County and the estate was probated in Feb 1850. He was there in 1840, as was Augustin. I think Augustin’s full name was William Augustin Allen. Augustin Allen married Sina Rawley/Raleigh. There are several references to William Allen in the area also and Augistin's son, my 3rd great-grandfather, was William Augustin Allen (1810-1891).
