Lawrence McGown obituary
Mr. Lawrence McGown, born Feb. 18, 1887 died Oct. 9, 1941, at his home in New Brighton, Pa., from a heart attack. He was the son of the late John and Priscilla McGown and spent his boyhood days in Jackson County, WVa.
Surviving are his wife, Fanny McGown, five children, Reginald Loretta, Donald, and John, all of New Brighton. Three brothers and one sister, Mrs. Mary E Hay, of New Philidelphia, Ohio; John and Okey McGown, of Kent, Ohio, and Clarence Kent McGown, whereabouts unknown. Funeral services were held at the home and burial was in the Sylvania Hills cemetery at New Brighton. (This article was dated Friday, 24 October 1941)
Roy Basil McGown obituary
On Saturday evening July 13 at 7:30, at his home in Newell, WVa., Mr Roy Basil McGown, age 51 years, 9 months and one day, passed away after an extended illness of more than two years. Mr. McGown, born in Wirt County, WVa. and reared in Jackson County was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John "Uncle Jack" McGown of Sandy. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Miss Docia Grant, RFD 1, Elizabeth, WVa., who died 26 years ago at New Brighton, Pa. He was also preceded in death by his father and mother, two sisters and two brothers. He leaves a widow by the second marriage, Mrs. Mollie McGown; two sons, William and Orel McGown of Newell; one sister, Mrs. Ella Hay, of New Philadelphia, Ohio; three brothers, John and Okey McGown, of Kent, Ohio; and Lawrence McGown, of New Brighton, Pa.; three step-daughters, Mrs. Mildred Rairden and Mrs. Kathryn Covert, of Newell, and Mrs. Dorthy Mayles, of Chester, WVa; one step-son, John Barnes, of Newell, and eight grandchildren. The funeral services were held in the home on Washington Street and were conducted by Rev. Geleich Worth, pastor of Newell Methodist church. Burial was made in the Locust Hill cemetery near Chester, WVa. (This article was in the paper dated Aug. 23, 1940).
