I am trying desperately to find more information on my ggrandfather Anthony James and my ggrandmother Martha J. Latton. He may also have used his stepfather's name of Davis. I was told that Martha's relatives may still reside in the Putney area of Kanawha County on Cambell's Creek. Putney is where my grandfather Arthur was born in 1908. Anthony was born February 8, 1884 in Martin County, Kentucky and sometime around 1920 he and Martha along with their sons Virgil, Arthur, Arlee, Herman, Sherman, and Thurmond relocated there ... possibly due to inheritance of property ... not sure whether for Anthony or Martha. I do know that Martha had atleast one sister named Elizabeth who stayed with them for sometime as she shows in the 1920 census for Martin County Kentucky ... her surname there reflecting "Smith". I have also been told that Martha's relatives are of American Indian extraction and that they are dark complected. This coming from my grandfather and my Dad after having visited with them in the Campbell's Creek area in the late 1940's.
Anthony became estranged from Martha and apparently moved to Kanawha County and worked for Cabin Creek Consolidated Coal Company as of 1936 along with my grandfather Arthur and most likely the other sons as well. Anthony's Dad was Samuel James and his mother was Susan Stepp.
My grandfather later worked for Truax Traylor and White Coal Company. He retired to Red House, Putnam County, WV when the mines played out in the early to mid 1950's.
Anthony died in October 1963 in Kermit, WV.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
