Hi Paula,

Since I have Ancestry, I look at message boards for people needing some genealogy help, and pick a query to answer. This family has a Stafford County, VA connection, which is where I'm from, so I posted a reply to you. It is NOT my family.

Here we go:
Cora A. JACKSON was born about Jan 1867 Cora A. CARDER, the daughter of Cornelius H. CARDER and Mary Ellen PEACOCK. Cora married Henry "Harry" A. Wise JACKSON, born 17 Nov 1859, Stafford County, VA, the son of John C. JACKSON and Amelia C. WATSON, on 19 June 1892 in Taylor County, WV. This couple lived in Fetterman or Grafton, Taylor County from their marriage until at least 1933, when Henry Wise JACKSON died 9 March 1933, in Parkersburg, Tygart, Wood Co., WV. Henry is buried in Grafton, but I didn't find a death record for Cora, but assume she is there, too.

Their JACKSON children:
Lottie M., born Aug 1893
Charles C., born March 1895
George H., born June 1897
Lester Henry, born 30 June 1904
twin, Lawrence W., born 30 June 1904
Mary E., born 1908

Cora's parents were:

Cornelius "Neece" H. CARDER born 13 March 1842, Taylor County, and died 10 Jan 1914 and Mary Ellen PEACOCK, born 4 Sept 1842, and died 3 Aug 1915. They married 14 Dec 1865, Taylor Co., and had seven children:
Cora A. CARDER, born Jan 1867
Joseph Plummer CARDER, born 24 Oct 1868
Esther CARDER, born 3 July 1870
William CARDER, born 7 Sept 1872
John R. CARDER, born 26 Dec 1875
George CARDER, born 21 June 1877
Sarah Rebecca CARDER, born 13 March 1881

Now for the Stafford County, Virginia connection:
In 1860, Henry Wise JACKSON , a one year old infant, was living with his parents and siblings at Stafford Courthouse, Stafford, Virginia. By 1870, this large family was living in Fetterman, Taylor Co., WV. Henry's parents:

John C. JACKSON, born 1822-25, Virginia and his wife, Pamelia or Amelia C. WATSON, born 1832, Virginia, married before 1854, Stafford, and had these ten JACKSON children:
1) Letticia M., born 25 July 1854, Stafford, died 26 Sept 1879, Taylor, WV
2) Caroline C., born 15 July 1855, Stafford, married 17 Dec 1874, Philip P. ROGERS
3) Louisa M., born 15 Sept 1856, Stafford
4) Beverley Thomas, born 1858, Stafford, died Sept 1860, age 2, Taylor Co.
5) Henry A. Wise, born 17 Nov 1859, died 9 March 1933, Wood Co., WV
6) John H. , born 1858-1860 ?
7) James T., born March 1861, died 10 Sept 1861, age 6 mths, Taylor Co.
8) Samuel, born 1862, married 20 May 1886 Sarah E. LAKE
9) John A., born 1863 WVA, married 26 Jan 1888 Mary J. REESE
10) Nathan D., born 1867, WVA, married 12 Jan 1893 Ella GARLOW

This should get you started! Another researcher, who has tons of stuff on the CARDER line is Shandi Brown at ShandiBrown@bright.net. Look at her Family Tree at Rootsweb.com for details.

Any questions? Are you a genealogist yourself or a "newbie" to family history?
I'm intriqued by this Jackson family. They were farmers in Stafford County, and they just picked up and moved on the eve of the Civil War to way over yonder in western Virginia - why? They had to leave everything behind; you cannot "move" a farm. The Carder family lived in Culpeper County, Virginia next to Stafford, in Colonial times - they were in Taylor County by the 1840's. Why did they move? A land grant, for Revolutionary War military service? Much more research to do before we can answer those questions.

Regards,
Laura W. Hazel
