Rev. Stanley V. Michael
Rev. Stanley V. Michael, 69, Springfield, MO, died Tuesday, September 16, 1997, in Cox Medical Center South.
He was born June 29, 1928, the son of the late Oakley and Lola Widmyer Michael, in Berkeley Springs.
He attended Central Bible College in Springfield, graduating in 1950. He was ordained as a minister in the South Texas District of the Assemblies of God in 1952. From 1951 to 1952, he was the assistant Pastor at Lindale Assembly of God Church, Houston, TX; from 1953 to 1965, he was a field representative and Promotions Coordinator of Revival time International Radio Broadcast of the Assemblies of God; from 1965 to 1995, he was the National Secretary of Benevolence of the General Council of the Assemblies of God Headquarter, Springfield; he was the contributing editor to the Pentecostal Evangel Magazine from 1955 to 1995; he was Editor of Caring Magazine from 1966 to 1995; and he was communion Coordinator for 12 General Council sessions for the Assemblies of God.
He directed the building of 10 new major facilities at Hillcrest Children's Home, Hot Springs, AR, and four facilities for Highlands Child Placement Services, Kansas City, MO. He received the 40 year service award from Assemblies of God Headquarters, was named in Who's Who in Religion in America, and served on the board of directors for the National Interfaith Coalition on Aging. He retired in 1995 as Secretary o Benevolence where he supervised and coordinated all benevolence functions for the General Council of Assemblies of God Churches, including Aged Ministers Assistance, Disaster Relief, Hillcrest Children's Home, Highlands Child Placement Services, Bethany Retirement Home (Lakeland, FL), and Refugee Resettlement.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Michael, at home; two daughters, Starla Blair, Springfield, and LaVonne McDaniel, Olathe, KS; one grandson; a brother, Sylvester Michael, Cincinnati, OH; and three sisters, Marian Young, Berkeley Springs, WV; Arthella Ganoe, Hancock, MD; and Vada Conant, Waxahachie, TX.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Elmo Michael.
Services were held on September 19, 1997, at the Central Assembly of God Church. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens under direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
