Two more of Balser Hammer's signatures have been located on marriage bonds in Eric Hedrick's newly released fourth CD
http://www.erichedrick.com/pendmbonds/In each case, the surname ends in "en". This makes it certain that there was no signing error - the surname did not end in "er" and so was originally Hammen (or Hamen with a bar over the "m" which makes a double m in German).
The few signatures in German script on Eric's latest CD shows the rapidly declining use of German in Pendleton County by 1820 - Christian Eagle, John Hottinger, and Cutlip Heavner are the others who signed in German.
