Gertrude C. Tolbert
Gertrude Cook Tolbert, 82, of Cabell Heights, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999.
Born April 23, 1917, at Cabell Heights, she was the daughter of the late James Baline and Willie Coleman Dillon Cook.
Mrs. Tolbert was a lifelong resident of Beckley and a homemaker. She was an active member of the Oak Grove Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
In her leisure time she enjoyed quilting, gardening and sewing and was an avid antique collector.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard Cook in 1925, George Cook in 1937, and Charles Haskell Cook in 1989; and a sister, Marguerite, in 1930.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Clifford Tolbert; three sons, Glen Tolbert and wife, Gertha, of Hanna, Wyo., Jimmy Tolbert and wife, Linda, of Beckley, and Curtis Tolbert and wife, Lisa, of Douglas, Wyo.; three daughters, Phyllis Jenkins and husband, Larry, of Durham, N.C., Patty Metrick and husband, Larry, of Beckley, and Susan Hancock and husband, Bill, of Beckley; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Underwood and husband, Herbert, of Beckley, and Rose Snuffer and husband, Paul, of Charleston.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Grove Christian Church, Oak Grove Road, Beckley, with Mr. Kenneth Overdorf and Mr. Sheldon Cosma officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
