Expired here Sunday

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Games will be held at two o’clock Wednesday afternoon in the Calvary M. E. Church. Rev. S. C. Jones pastor of that church will conduct the services. Burial will be made in Greenlawn cemetery.

Mrs. Games passed away at her home, 2012 First Street, at 2:45 o’clock Sunday morning [8 Dec 1929], after a lengthy illness. She was 67 years of age. She had been a resident of Moundsville for the last twenty-eight years.

Surviving Mrs. Games are three daughters, Mrs. C. M. Taylor, Mrs. Earl C. Evans, and Mrs. Lawrence Miller; also eleven grand children, all of this city.

She was a member of the Limestone Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband, Russell Powell; five sons, Norman of East Sparta, OH, Roger of East Akron, OH, Edward, Kenneth and Joseph, a reporter for the Intelligencer, all of New Martinsville; two daughters, Mrs Edith Rottman of N Canton, Oh, Mrs Helen Hootman of New Martinsville; and 16 grandchildren.

Virginia Long EVANS died June 12, 2005, at Solace Hospice in Asheville, with her loving husband and daughters at her bedside after a 43 year battle with cancer.

She was born July 24, 1920, in Clarksburg, W.Va., and was a native and life long resident of West Virginia until the last two years when she moved to Black Mountain to be closer to her family. She was a member of Black Mountain United Methodist Church.

She was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she majored in education and music. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and served as organist for many churches in West Virginia and as accompanist for many soloists and performance groups. She was a P.E.O. Sister and past president of United Methodist Women.

She and the Rev. Dr. Ross M. Evans were married for 62 loving years. She is survived by her husband, Ross; daughter, Donna Marie Todd, and son-in-law, Perrin Todd, of Black Mountain; daughter, Betsy MORGAN Ingstrup, and son-in-law, Kevin Ingstrup, of Elk Grove Village, Ill.; sister, Ruby Smith, of Columbus, Ohio; brother, John Long, of Bridgeport, W.Va.; and three grandchildren, Torey MORGAN Todd, of Black Mountain, and Kristin Marie and Trevor Charles Ingstrup, of Elk Grove Village. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Long Palmer.

She is to be buried in her beloved Lewisburg, W.Va., after a funeral at the Lewisburg United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 16, at 11 a.m. There will also be a memorial service to celebrate her life at the Black Mountain United Methodist Church Saturday, June 18, at 11 a.m.

Her life was a tribute to the healing power of Jesus Christ and she lived each day in gratitude and humility.

The Rev. Dr. Evans has established a memorial fund in her honor to be used by local churches to enhance their music programs. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to The United Methodist Foundation, for The Virginia Long EVANS Memorial Music Fund, P.O. Box 3811, Charleston, W.Va. 25338.

Donald L. Hill, 77, of Fourth Street, Moundsville, W.Va., died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, in UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh, Pa.
He was born April 29, 1927, in Moundsville, the son of the late Frank B. and Edna I. Robinson Hill.
He was a member of Marshall Union Lodge No. 8, AF & AM, where he served as Worshipful Master from 1964 to 1965 and 1971 to 1972, as secretary from 1994 to the present time and as Grand Master of Mason in West Virginia from 1986 to 1987. He was a board member and treasurer of the Masonic Home in West Virginia, member of the Committee on Masonic Jurisprudence of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of West Virginia AF & AM. He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry 32nd Degree Valley of Wheeling, Knights Companion of the Red Cross of Constantine, Grand Royal Arch Masons of West Virginia, Knights Templar, Little Prince Lodge No. 79, Knights of Pythias.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia Wilson, Evelyn Stackhouse and Orah B. Mickey; and a brother, Frank ?Bud? Hill Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Hill; two sons, David (Suellen) Hill of Bristol, W.VA., and Ronald (Jacqueline) Hill of Ocean Springs, Miss.; a sister, Eva Gorczyca; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 400 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville and on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. at Moundsville Baptist Church, Fourth and Annadale Avenue, Moundsville, with the Rev. Ronald Price and the Rev. J. Thomas Steele officiating. Entombment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville, where Masonic graveside services will be conducted and the Moundsville Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services.

Doris H. Gadd LOCKE, 82

EAST LIVERPOOL - Doris H. Gadd LOCKE, 82, of Vine Street died at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at Nentwick Convalescent Center following a lengthy illness.

Born in Akron, Ohio, Jan.19, 1923, daughter of the late Friend A. and Leona Butler GADD, she moved to East Liverpool with her parents when she was six years old. After attending elementary school in Dixonville, she spent her freshman year at East Liverpool High School.

She then transferred to Mount Vernon Academy in Mount Vernon, Ohio, from which she was graduated.

Following graduation, the firm of Cooper-Bessemer in Mount Vernon offered a position, which she accepted, as a Blue Print Tracer for United States naval ships.

Later she returned and resided in East Liverpool, where for a short time, she was employed with James LOCKE Jewelers. She purchased the World Book and Bible House from Edwin Maloney, the former owner. After many years, in the early 1980s, she sold the store due to a serious illness in the family.

Trinity Presbyterian Church was her home church. She served in many capacities such as Sunday school teacher, trustee, a loving den mother of Cub Scout Pack 12, and a member of Amikitia Bible Study.

A member and past president of Quota Club International of East Liverpool, she also was a member of the East Liverpool Lions Club.

The art of sewing and costume design was a great hobby of hers, and she designed and made the costume for "Pud," the East Liverpool frog who was a part of East Liverpool parades.

Earl A. Locke, her loving husband whom she married Feb. 18, 1943, survives at home.

Two sons, Wayne A. Locke and his wife, Marsha, of Merino Valley, Calif., and Darrel H. Locke, at home, survive.

There are eight grandchildren, Jason D. Locke and his wife, Patty and Andrew R. Locke and his wife, Kristen, of Mesa, Ariz., Stephen M. Locke of East Liverpool, Aaron M. Locke of Chicago, Sarah W. Locke of Studio City, Calif., Amanda LOCKE and Jonathon LOCKE and his wife Lara of Merino Valley, and David J. Locke and his wife Lori of East Liverpool.

Six great-grandchildren also survive, Cecilia LOCKE and David J. Locke Jr. of East Liverpool, Taryn and Remy LOCKE of Indianapolis, Ind., and Jaden LOCKE and Indica Sullivan of Merino Valley.

A daughter-in-law, Amy L. Clause of Tuscon, also survives.

Two brothers, Dale GADD and his wife, Mary Lou, of East Liverpool, and Gerald GADD of Midland Heights, Pa., survive as well.

A son, Ralph E. Locke, and a granddaughter, Diane Susan LOCKE, preceded her in death.

Friends may call Friday at the Dawson Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

The Rev. Dr. H. Gene Toot, Pastor Emeritus of Trinity Presbyterian Church will conduct services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Immediately following burial family and friends will gather in fellowship at the Dawson Family Center.

Earl Alvin LOCKE, 85

EAST LIVERPOOL - Earl Alvin LOCKE, 85, of Vine Street, East Liverpool, passed away following an extended illness at 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2006, while visiting his oldest son, Wayne, and his wife, Marsha, in Merino Valley, Calif.
Born in East Liverpool on Oct. 25, 1920, he was the third son and fourth child of James A. Locke Sr. and Ital (Hill) LOCKE. He had spent his lifetime in the area, with the exception of his time spent serving in the military during World War II with General Patton's Army and in Belgium from 1942-45.

He attended Pleasant Heights School and Bell School, which was one of the last one-room schools in this area. He was a 1938 graduate of East Liverpool High School.

Prior to the service, he was a kiln placer with Homer Laughlin China Company. Following the war, he trained as a clock and watchmaker with James LOCKE Jewelers until 2003, when he was needed at home due to a family illness.

He was a longtime member of Trinity Church, where he had served as deacon, elder, trustee and also belonged to the Amikitia Group.

A devoted member of the East Liverpool Lions Club, he had served in various positions over the years, including president, treasurer and Tail Twister. He received a 40-year Monarch Pin and an award for many years of perfect attendance. For several years, he served as advisor to the Boy Scouts Explorers, Pack 12.

The game of golf was a great source of pleasure to him, as was playing his harmonica. He enjoyed taking it to nursing homes to play, and also entertained his friends at the East Liverpool wharf on the Ohio River.

His beloved wife, the former Doris GADD, preceded him in death on Nov. 1, 2005. They were married Feb. 16, 1943.

Surviving are two sons, Wayne A. Locke, and his wife, Marsha, of Merino Valley, Calif. and Darrel H. Locke, at home.

There are eight grandchildren, Jason D. Locke and his wife, Patty, of Indianapolis, Andrew R. Locke and his wife, Kirsten, of Mesa, Ariz., Stephen M. Locke of East Liverpool, Aaron M. Locke of Cleveland, Sarah W. Locke of Studio City, Calif., Amanda LOCKE and Jonathan LOCKE and his wife, Lara, of Merino Valley, and David J. Locke and his wife, Lori, of East Liverpool.

Mr. Locke was also preceded in death by a son, Ralph Ellis LOCKE, a granddaughter, Diana Susan LOCKE, a sister, Thelma LOCKE, and three brothers, Wayne E. Locke, Harold S. Locke and James A. Locke Jr.

A tirelessly devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is missed terribly by his family. But the effects of his love, loyalty, generosity and sense of humor will be felt throughout our family for years to come.

Services will be held at the Dawson Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Friday, with the Rev. Dr. H. Gene Toot officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 to 6 to 8 p.m.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
