The funeral of George Schmitt, 82, who died at his home here on Friday, following a week's illnes, was held at 2 p. m. Sunday from the Zlon Lutheran Church with burial in the New Holsteln city cemetery. The Rev. Carl Ramthun officiated.
Mr. Schmitt was born In Ashford, Washington county, September 12, 1850 and moved to Morrison, Brown county at the age of 18. He married Miss Mary Meyer of Wrlghtstown, January 29, 1874 and the couple lived on the Schmitt homestead until 1914 when they moved here. Survivors are the widow, two daughters, Minnie and Emma at home, five sons, George of Forest Junction, Henry and Edwin of New Holsteln, Otto of Chilton, William of Milwaukee and three sisters.

Mrs. Schmitt Of New Holstein Is Summoned Today

New Holstein, Wis. — (Special) — Mrs. George Schmitt, 82, died here at 3:45 a. m. today after being in ill health for 16 years.
Mrs. Schmitt was born In Hanover, Germany, Sept. 27, 1855, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Meyer. In June, 1866, the family came to America and settled at Branch, in Manitowoc county, where they lived for five years. They then moved to Hollandtown in Brown county, where she was married to George Schmitt. The couple lived in the town of Morrison in Brown county for 42 years. On Nov. 7, 1914, they moved to New Holstein and took up their residence on Wisconsin avenue. They operated the H. E. Schmitt & Co. general store in New Holstein. Mrs. Schmitt was a member of the Ladies' Aid society of the Zion Lutheran church.
She is survived by two daughters, Minnie and Emma, at home; five sons, George, Jr., and William of Forest Junction; Henry and Edwin of New Holstein, and Otto, of Chilton; and eight grandchildren. One daughter, Alvina, preceded her in death. Her husband died in 1932.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Erbe-Hoffmann Funeral home at 1:45 p. m. Monday, and at 2 o'clock at the Zion Lutheran church. The Rev. Carl Ramthun will officiate and burial will be in the New Holstein cemetery. The body may be viewed at the funeral home from Saturday noon until the time of the services.
