Thank you so very much! I was happy to receive another reply today from someone who also offered the cemetery. It is the Forest Hill Cemetery in Chippewa Falls, Wi. I can't find a website for the cemetery and there are only partial listings available on find a grave and another site that has the county cemeteries and listings. I plan on heading up that direction in May so I'll try to stop by the cemetery and get photos (assuming there is something to photograph). JC Hakes was my 4x great grandfather.
Seraphine Peacore and Mary Blanchard Peacore

I am looking to find information on Seraphine Peacore (Many variations for the last name.). I first find him in Chippewa County where he marries Maria Blanchard on January 5, 1865 in a civil ceremony. April 23, 1865 there is a re-validation ceremony of their marriage in the Catholic Church. The 1870 Fed. census has them living in Eagle Point. He is listed as Joseph Pecor. the 1880 Fed. census has him listed as Seraphat Pekard living in Eagle Point. 1887-1893 I find Seraphine and his family on the Indian census rolls. The tribe is listed as Ojibwe in some and Chippewa in others. He was born in Canada circa 1841. Using birth records on Familysearch and census records I figure he and Mary had 13 kids. I last find them in 1893 in the Indian census rolls, but I am not sure where in Wisconsin they are. I need to find if they died in Chippewa County, and when. My husband is descended from their daughter Mary Elizabeth "Nellie" Peacore Richards. Thanks.

I have pictures of Emily Regina and Donald Henry McDonell children of Alexander McDonell who drowned when they were early teens. They were in possession of my ancestor Gertrude Leahy, one of the foundresses of the Polson Catholic Hospital. On the back of the photographs: Emily Regina McDonell (deceased) Beloved daughter of our very kind and generous Benefactor - hon. A. B. McDonell. Chippewa Falls, Wis. Are you still working on this line?
Ruth Tyson
friendlylight1960@msn.com

What do the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census say? Maybe the Barthen/Zweifelhoffer marriage record is in Minnesota if not found in Wisconsin (MHS site)? Other Barthen burials in that cemetery? Other Barthen entries in indexes for that area (library, WisGenweb, local historical soc.)? Are the newspaper clippings from a Chippewa Falls paper or Milwaukee Journal and Sentinel? (newspapers at WHS available through inter-library loan)

His father was Philip, don't remember the name of his mother but his sisters were Maureen, and Sharon. Look at the 1940 census. Awhile ago I sent same info to a woman from Canada, don't remember her name either! Bob might decide to answer your letter. Good luck

I have a suggestion for you. Write to Lyle and Brandt. His address is N13808 Fairview Ave, Stanley, Wi. 54768. He is about 75 or so and he might know who you are looking for. I was reading your post and there are 2 other cemeteries in Stanley. the one north of town is a Lutheran cemetery [Evergreen] and a very small one east of town. You could try contacting the Stanley Historical Society at 228 Helgerson St. Stanley.715-644-0464.

Just read your posting for Chippewa County. I am a member of Big Drywood and the cemetery is just out side of the church. Although you may want to check out English Lutheran which has a Chippewa mailing address. Big Drywood and English were a 2 point church Joyce at one time with the same pastor which was Rev. Lea. The cemetery Bateman, is just across the road on county X. It has it's own web site. Big Drywood also has it's own web site. Hope this helps and you find what you are looking for. If I can help just ask! Joyce

Thanks. This was St George's 3rd wife. His 1st wife, Mary Jane Clark, seems to have dissappeared from the face of the earth. She was a sister to my direct ancestor. After reading what he did to his 3rd wife, Laura, it makes you wonder what he could have done to Mary Jane. Their two sons were found living with strangers in a census after Peter married his 2nd wife. His 2nd wife, Lucretia Pratt, left him with their son and changed her name to her maiden name and changed her son's name as well. At least she got out of it with her life. What I find interesting is that the 2 sons of Mary Jane Clark and Peter St George actually came forward and assisted with probate and custody issues after Peter ended Laura's life and took his own. This man was truly wicked. To be able to slit your own throat ear to ear takes a certain kind of person. thanks again.
If you find anyting else, please let me know. I am in Florida and can't go to the scene of the crime to investigate. my new email is jhpizarro@comcast.net

Came across the following article last night (entirely coincidental). Laura Haverlin St. George died on 13 Dec 1890, Peter St. George two days later, 15 Dec 1890.

Murder and Suicide at Cadott
Eau Claire News | Eau Claire, Wisconsin | Monday, December 22, 1890

On Saturday, the 13th, inst., Mrs. Peter St. George, of Cadott, was found hanging dead from a clothes-line in the barn, and her husband was about loudly bewailing her "suicide," as he termed it. Marks about her head and face showed plainly, however, that she had been killed before being suspended, and the officers kept a close watch on St. George, who evidently became alarmed and cut his throat from ear to ear, his body being found Monday night in his bedroom after life was extinct.

The coroner's jury found in accordance with the facts stated above. The little six-year-old daughter of the couple said her father and mother quarreled before daylight Sunday morning, and that her father struck and choked her mother and then dragged her out.

St. George was an old soldier, and Mrs. St. George was about 35 years his junior. They have resided at Cadott about a year and are known to have had considerable trouble for some time.

You might also be interested to know that Edward Warner was the depot agent at the Hubbard Iowa railroad Depot for a few years. That's where Grandma (Ruth) was born. We tried to get a birth certificate before she passed away but the Hardin County courthouse burned in the early 1900's so there are no records from that time period.
After leaving Hubbard, they returned to Sac City and Edward was the depot agent here for a time before the left for South Dakota, where they homesteaded on the prairie near the Missouri river northeast of the current town of Presho. I had the homestead papers but of course they are gone now too.
Again... if I can fill in any blanks, please let me know.
Teresa

I am Ruth Warner Gustafson's grandaughter and spent a lot of time in Holcombe and Chippewa with Bert, John, Gene and George.
I had the whole family tree done.. along with many MANY pictures that Grandma had given me, but my house burned a couple of years ago, so I'm starting from scratch since she and my mom (Luanne) are both gone now.
I visited your website and the names are all so familiar.

I am a greatgrandaughter of Amos Doers. I have just published my memior Among the Silent Giants by Sharon Porter Moxley. I am down from Amos and Marys son Guy Henry Doers. The book has loads of information about the Doers family as well as photos of Guy and his children Allan,Doris, Maude and my mother Ruby.

The book is an unusual read full of humor (Doer's humor of course, adventures.

When Sharon Porter was a gutsy, precocious kid, she lived in the giant redwoods of Northern California, high up in a remote logging camp called Whitethorn. Told from young Sharon's point of view, Among the Silent Giants is a sometimes humorous, sometimes serious, and often unexpected narrative of her adventures and struggles coping with life in and around the camp and gaining a sense of her identity. On her horse Stardust, she explores the timber country, fishes, traps, and hunts for food in mountains with the big, ancient trees so quiet and still that she believes they have spirits in them.

Hello, I am not related. I don't have access to William's obit, but did find the following information. William seems to have married Matilda Maloy/Melville. I think Melville is the correct name. William and Matilda had 5 9known) children: Elizabeth, Mary, Hannah, Daniel, & Matilda. Mary married John Widden in 1898 in Chippewa Falls, and Mary married Thomas Minogue in 1894 in Chippewa Falls. Matilda (wife of William) most likely died between 1882 (birth of daughter Matilda), and the 1900 census (William a widow). I think I found William's 2nd marriage to Mary Crowley in 1904 Chippewa Falls. If so, then William's parents were Daniel Houran & Elizabeth Ehebart.

I found William, Matilda & their 2 daughters Elizabeth & Mary in the 1871 Ontario census in (Town?) Smith, Peterborough West. There was an Elizabeth Melville living with them. I would think that she was Matilda's mother. I couldn't find them in the 1881 Ontario census, nor in the 1880 US census. They most likely immigrated during this time, possibly missing both census.
Hope this helps somewhat.

My mother's mother's name was Jessie C. O'Donnell (nee Mason). She was born in April of 1882 in Pepin, Wis.
According to 1940 U.S. Census, she was listed as patient in Chippewa County Asylum. She lived in Rice Lake prior. Ironically, my grandfather is listed as a widower in 1940. I assume she died in 1940 in the asylum.
Can't find obit or death certificate on her. Any ideas or help is appreciated. Thanks!
Linda
