DIES OF STROKE DURING A VISIT--Mrs. Mary Ruder Succumbs To Sudden Paralysis While At Oshkosh; Body Arrives Here For Burial

Mrs. Mary Ruder, 509 Fourth Street, died at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Hospital, following a stroke of paralysis which she suffered at the Albert Abraham home at Oshkosh, where she had gone to visit her daughter, Miss Lena.

Mrs. Ruder was born July 5, 1859, at Chicago, her maiden name being Mary Laessig. [Daughter of Edward and Jeanette Baenen Laessig of Webertown, Marathon County, WI] She came to Green Bay at the age of 15 years and after finishing school, she taught school for about eight years at Wausau and Stratford, where her parents moved from Green Bay.

The deceased was united in marriage to Emil Ruder at Wausau 45 years ago and shortly afterwards they moved to Merrill, where Mr. Ruder established the Ruder Brewing Company.

Six children were born to the Ruders, five of whom are living; Lena, Elizabeth, now Mrs. Peter Vnuk of Rothchild, George, Merrill, Ed of Ontanagan, and William of Merrill. There are 13 grand children. Four sisters, Mrs. Anna Kissinger, Victoria B.C., Mrs. Dan Vandehey of Colby and Mrs. Michael Wagner of Milwaukee survive.

The deceased was a member of the Catholic church all her life and of the Altar Society of St. Francis church and the Catholic Relief & Beneficiary Associates for many years.

The body was brought to Merrill last evening by the son, William, and funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning at nine a.m., Rev. Father M.A. Prock to officiate. Burial will be at the family lot at the Merrill cemetery beside the remains of the husband and son Emil, Jr. who died at the age of two years.
