Albert A. Nehls, 68 years, 4 months and 22 days. He died February 17, 1945 at 4:30 p.m. in the local hospital after an illness extendeding over some priod of time and after he submitted to an operation he proved to be to ill to entertaine thoughts of of recovery. Albert was born September 26, 1873, in Pommerania, Germany. He was baptized there. With his parents, he came to Portage, Wisconsin in 1882, were he lived ever since. He attended St. Johns church for sixty years. He was confirmed here, and in 1900 was united in marriage with Mary Kleist, who preceded him in death in June, 1940.
He was a veteran of the Spanish-American war, having served with old co. F Third Wisconsin Regiment, in the Porto Rician campaign. For many years he worked for the Power and Light company. He retired more than three years ago. He was buried in the Silver Lake cemetery. Hisurviors are as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nehls and there daughters Betty and Carol, Miss Mary Nehls, a sister of the deceased, and Mrs. Martha Callahan, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Msr. Al Klatt of Columbus, Wisconsin. Son Harry Nehls, a daughter-in-law; two grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Emilie Mardquardt of Portage, Wisconsin.
