Searching for information on Ira Smith, b. 1785 in West Stockbridge, MA, and d. 1854 in Manitowoc, WI. It is known that he had two wives, (1) Mahala (Mahalleph) Redway, daughter of James Joel Redway, who died young, possibly in Victor, Ontario Co., NY, and (2) Sarah, a "doctor woman", who he may have married in NY or PA. He applied for and received a bounty land warrant in 1850 in WI for his service in the War of 1812. Ira and Mahala had a daughter, Sarah Mahala Redway Smith.
Ira was one of 9 children of Nicholas Smith, b . Abt. 1755, Stockbridge, MA; d. April 4, 1814, Victor, Ontario Co., NY, and his wife Abigail Boughton, b. July 31, 1757, Stamford, CT; and d. 1796 in Victor, Ontario Co., NY. Their 9 children were: David, Sally, Betsey, Philenus, Hezekiah, Ava, b. Abt. 1779, Anna, b. 1780, Ira, b. 1785, and Erastus, b. 1794.
