Eau Claire Lakes area. Help needed with locating a death.

My 2nd great grandfather, Robert Philip Feis, died on December 6, 1892 in Eau Claire Lakes, Wisconsin. I know both Douglas and Bayfield have one so I need to pin point what county he died in.
If you can look around old records to help me find him I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you,

Feb 1896 News Article - Body of Man Found in Woods

While trying to find an old news article about someone from Superior, Wisconsin who may have "gone missing" sometime after 1892, I stumbled upon the following newspaper article, which I transcribed. I don't think the article is about the person about whom I am searching, a man who was a peddler. It may prove of interest to someone else researching some ancestor who went missing in late 1895 or early 1896 in Douglas County, Wisconsin.

Note: The article is from an Eau Claire newspaper. There was probably a longer article in a Superior newspaper at the time, but so far I haven't found any Superior, Wis. newspaper images in any of the online databases.
+++++++

From: Access NewspaperArchives Database

Transcriber: Jean E. DeLauche, March 21, 2013 – Sorry but I don’t know the page number from the newspaper. The very top of the page was not photographed for the image, which was probably originally on microfilm.

Morning Telegram, Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Saturday, February 15, 1896

PARTLY DEVOURED BY WOLVES.

Body of a Man Found in the Woods Near Superior

SUPERIOR, Feb. 14.--Henry F. Wolfe, a cooper residing here, made a ghastly discovery while hunting in about ten miles east of here this morning. He was following the tracks of some wild beast when he came upon the remains of a human body. The head was all that was visible, the remainder of the body being covered with four feet of snow. To all appearances the head had been uncovered by wolves or other animals of the forest. Not a particle of flesh remained upon the upper portion of the body, the bones having been picked clean by wild, beasts. The body rested upon the bare ground, proving beyond a doubt that it had been there since last fall. The man was dressed in the garb of a woodsman or explorer, and there was a gold ring on one of the fingers, but there were no papers or other articles about the person that might lead to identification. It. is believed by some that the body is that of the missing Dan Ryan, whose disappearance about six weeks ago excited the town of Brule. twenty-seven miles east of Superior.
++++++++

Josphine Wotzka (1883-1923)

I am looking for help tracking down the death information on Josephine Wotzka. Born in Long Prairie, MN in 1883 to Alexander & Constantina (Lamusga) Wotzka; I recently found her gravemaker in Greenwood Cemetery in Superior, WI.

I was told that at one point she was married to a George Valsey, but ultimately divorced him. I realize this is not a lot of data to work with, but am hoping that it might stimulate someone to find/send me some more about her life/death or more about her relationship with George Valsey.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide. Sincerely, "PJ" Braun

Thank you so very much for this information. You have just helped me narrow down the years they could have been married. If she was still listed as a Young in 1905 I now know they married between 1905-1910.

I never saw the census where she was in the hospital and I'm glad I now have this too.

I will re-check Beltrami and Towner counties.
Thanks again,
Delayne

Hello, I am not related. Maybe you can look again in Beltrami County, Minnesota or Towner County, North Dakota.

It looks like Myrl and her adoptive parents were living in Beltrami County, Minnesota during the 1905 state census. It also looks like Myrl was listed in the hospital in St. Paul for the same year.

I couldn't find Harry & Mryl in the 1910 census either, but they may have been moving from North Dakota back to Minnesota during that time before going to Washington.

I found Alonzo & May in Beltrami County during 1910, 1920, & 1930 census. Harry & Myrl had a son Charles N. Sanders who was born 28 Feb 1910 in Cando, ND. In the 1920 census, Charles is living with his "grandparents" Alonzo & May. He is still living with them in 1930 as an adopted son.

Hope this helps. Online edition, March 16, 2000:

CHARLES NOBEL SANDERS

MISSOULA - Charles Nobel Sanders, 90, was promoted to his eternal home on Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at St. Patrick Hospital.

He was born on Feb. 28, 1910, in Cando, N.D., to Harry and Myrl Sanders. Charles moved with his family to Solway, Minn., where he spent his younger years on a farm. Charles also worked in the woods cutting timber, as a mechanic and later became a machinist. He attended a rural one-room schoolhouse that had all eight grades. Charles was the oldest of seven children, having four brothers and two sisters.

On Aug. 23, 1933, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Marks in Solway. They have been happily married and blessed of God to have shared 66 1/2 years together.

Charles enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and hiking in the woods and mountains. He loved to play the guitar and violin and sing gospel songs.

Charles retired in 1973 from a large naval ordinance shop in Minneapolis and moved to Missoula to live. They enjoyed spending several winters in Southern California and Arizona in their RV.

His priority in life was faithfully attending church; he served as an elder for many years and taught Sunday school. He had been a member of the Missoula Alliance Church for the past 26 years. We who knew him are so grateful for the kind of person he was when God called him home. Charles was a loving husband, a faithful Christian, a respected workman and a delightful friend.

Charles was preceded in death by his father and mother, four brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth. two nieces, one nephew and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 17, from 4-7 p.m. at Garden City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18, at 2 p.m. at the Missoula Alliance Church (100 East Foss Court) with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. There will be a reception following the committal services at the church.

In lieu of flowers it is requested that memorials be made to the Missoula Alliance Church for the building of the new sanctuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.

This obit posted as a courtesy. I am not related to the Sanders or Marks families.
--------------
http://www.tributes.com/show/Elizabeth-Sanders-90928956

MISSOULA - Elizabeth Gertrude “Betty” Sanders of Missoula went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, and with her beloved husband Charles, who passed away in 2000 at age 90.

Betty was born August. 7, 1916, to James and Mabel (Haug) Marks of Felton, Minn. They later moved to Solway, Minn., where Betty grew up with three sisters and two brothers on the family farm and also attended school there. She worked as a housekeeper and babysitter before marrying Charles Noble Sanders, also of Solway, on August. 23, 1933. They lived in Solway for one year before moving to Snohomish, Wash., where Charles worked as a logger, farmhand and auto mechanic. After four years they returned to Solway, and Charles learned the machinist trade in nearby Bemidji during World War II. They moved to Crookston, Minn., and then to Minneapolis, where they lived until 1973. They retired to Missoula, where they belonged to the Missoula Alliance Church. Betty entered Bee Hive Homes in 2006.

While she and Charles were not blessed with children of their own, Betty loved children. She taught Sunday School, babysat and helped with youth events at her church. Betty participated in Bible studies, corresponded with missionaries and actively served the church wherever she lived. She also took pleasure in gardening, hiking in the mountains and fishing. In the early years of their retirement, she and Charles enjoyed spending several winters in Southern California and Arizona in their RV.

She is survived by one brother, Robert (Mary) of Rochester, Minn.; two sisters, Helen Johnson of Solway and Irene Bjelajac of Minneapolis; a brother-in-law, Harold Peterson of Grants Pass, Ore., and many nieces. She also is survived by her church family, including special caregivers Sara Wilson, Lowell Kauffman and Dr. John Bradford, and many friends.
I'm trying to locate the marriage record of my great grandparents, Harry Parlin Sanders born Nov 17, 1880 in Appleton, Swift, Minnesota and Myrl Young (this is her adopted name--also the name she went by as an adult) her birth name was Alnora Louise Feis born Dec 29, 1889 in Stillwater, Washington, Minnesota.

I've been searching for 12 years for this marriage record with no luck.

In the 1900 Superior, Douglas, Wisconsin census Myrl (Louise) is living with her parents, Alonzo and May Young. Harry is living with his parents in Todd County, Minnesota.

I can't find either one in the 1910 census but family says they met and married in North Dakota. I have searched everywhere in ND with no luck.

I was wondering if someone could look in Douglas County just to see if they may have married there? It's a long shot but I'm trying everything I can think of.

I'm totally lost on where to look for this record...I have searched all over Minnesota and North Dakota with no luck.

Thank you,
Delayne

I checked in the death records and did not find any Julius Petersons. The records in the book I checked start in the 1850's an dwent through the 1910's. However, I did find a listing for a baby Peterson. The record reads generally as follows: Infant of Julius Peterson, white male (age at time of death) 1/2 hour.
Father: Julius Peterson born in Sweden
Mother: Mary E. Larson born in Waupaca Co. Wisconsin.
Date of death June 3, 1898
Residence: 138 W 3rd St.
Burial, Nemadji Cemetery permit # 1102

This information was found in the death record book "B" page 159 and it is #949 - 109263

I have made a memorial on Findagrave for infant Peterson:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=94...

One more note, the addresses in East End, Superior were changed many years ago. W 3rd St. is now E. 3rd St. but I do not know exactly where 138 W 3rd would be as the 138 part has changed as well.

Then I looked through the same book for anybody listed with the last name Gowland and did not find any.

If you find any more information to go on I would certainly try and look again.
Dave

I am the great-niece of Benjamin Heaney. Rose (Heaney) Fleury, his sister, is my grandmother. She married Fred Fleury Sr. Benjamin & Rose were children of Dennis Heaney & Elizabeth DuBry.
I would love to learn more about the siblings of my grandmother. Just recently, I obtained the obituary of my grandmother, Rose (Heaney) Fleury, Julia (Heaney) McIntyre, (her younger sister) as well as Julia's husband, John E. McIntyre. I do not have obits for the other children of Dennis & Elizabeth (DuBry) Heaney...
I've researched the Indian census pages, but would like to know more. If you'd like to share info, please contact me... I am stumped on how to gain more knowledge on the Heaney line of my family!!
Thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely,
Ro Fleury
granddaughter of Fred Sr. & Rose (Heaney) Fleury

HI Michelle,

Thank you for the help and the offer! I am hoping to get up to Duluth before school starts in the fall. We live about 3 hours from there. If it doesn't work for us to get up there I may take you up on your offer. Hopefully we are able to get up there and if we do I can head over to Superior to check it out. A few years ago I stopped at a court house in South Dakota to go through old birth records (like 100 years back) and they wouldn't let me. I had never been told no before. They said it was because of identity theft. So I wanted to make sure before I go there that Wisconsin doesn't have that same law.

Thanks so much!

Faith

Anyone know something about a Harry Siegel / Superior WI.

Looking for any information on my dads grandpa: Harry (Hirsch or Hirsch) Siegel who vanished from Superior WI. in about 1894 after last son Joe Siegel was born there. Every city directory after shows his wife was a widow. She is buried alone. Does anyone know what happened to him? We have all censuses, etc on the family and my dad knew them and he was never spoken of. If anyone knows something, please get a hold of me, or can find a accident report from 1894-5, a tragedy report, missing person report or murder on him those years. (Superior WI.)Thank you.

I have a real brick wall, and I am hoping someone can help me with a marriage notice or license. The couple were married in Superior according to the man's obit on March 7, 1925. His name is David Lewis Sledge and her name was Virginia Dillabaugh. I know her mother was a Missouri Burgess, but we have no father. ANY help would be so appreciated! Thank you!
Obit Look-up, Sep. 1945, August SAMUELSON, Murdered?

I'm hoping someone can help me find a lost ancestor. His full name according to Swedish records was, August Martin Hilarius SAMUELSON, but he also used Gus or Gust. He was born in Sweden on Jan. 21, 1889. He immigrated to the US in 1907. He died Sep., 30, 1945 according to family lore. He was supposedly murdered but I don't have any additional information. I do know that he lived in Bennett Township, Douglas County, Wisconsin in 1917, 1920 & 1930 according to census records and the draft registration. He was a farmer but loved to gamble and that may have had something to do with his murder. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I was hoping for an obituary or an article regarding his murder.
