Julius F. Derge, 90, of Eau Claire died Friday, July 2, 2004, at Syverson Lutheran Home.
He was born Nov. 8, 1913, in Eau Claire, Wis., the son of Frank and Jessie (Birmingham) Derge.
He attended Cleveland College and Western Reserve, Cleveland, Ohio and was a graduate of The Motion Picture Theatre Managers Institute in Elmira, N.Y.
Julius served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II as a T/Sgt. He was a chief aircraft dispatcher in public relations and special services.
In 1938 to 1942, he was Operations Manager for Crowell-Collier Publishing Company in Los Angeles, Calif. From 1946 to 1955, he was co-owner of Shea Food Products in Cleveland, Ohio. From 1956 until retiring in 1975, he served as a corporate officer of Esgro, Inc. in Los Angeles.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion Post #53, a lifetime member of Eau Claire Elks BPO Lodge #402 and a charter member of the Third Ward Neighborhood Association.
Julius enjoyed fishing, gardening, travel and humor.
Julius is survived by nieces and nephews including, Sandra (Dennis) Bauer and David (Kathy) Gorton both of Eau Claire, and Frank Derge of Colorado Springs, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; and sister, Doris Gorton.
Funeral services will be at
11 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father William A. Dhein officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home is serving the family.
