ENDER Family in Eau Claire

I am hoping that this post helps me find a couple who were my folds dearest friend back in the 1940's. They were Dick(?) and Beverly Ender. I know they grew up in Eau Claire, I have many photographs of this couple and would like to get them to their family....
Dick and Bev both graduated in 1939 or 1940. My Mom was Lois Harstad and my Dad was Charles R Burgess.

I am enclosing a Photo of my folks ( on the right) withthis couple. if anyone has any ENDER families they know please help me find the owners of these photos! I believe Dick and Bev ended up outside of Detroit, Michigan. Thank you Sandy

Barden is my family name, yes. I am not familiar with a Hattie but it could be a relative. Most of mine are from the Wausau, Wisconsin area.

Sometimes I'm slow but I was wondering if Barden was a family name. If so, a Hattie Pearl Barden married a William Ziehl. They were my grandmother's aunt and uncle. Her maiden name was Ziehl.

Bonnie, I's sorry to have missed your message before now.
I don't have any Mittelstaedt info for you, but I can tell you about Henrietta SCHUKAR of Town Theresa, Dodge co., Wisconsin, one of the godparents of your twins. She was Henrietta Grawunder, born in Bernickow, Kr. Koenigsberg Neumark, Brandenburg. She and her husband Peter Schukar, and 3 children came to the US in 1852. The WURL name also appears in church records in Bernickow.
Have you looked at FamilySearch.org? The church books from Bernickow have been extracted so you can see the actual transcribed records. There will also be more info if you can look at microfilms of the records, available from familysearch.org.
I'm not finding a Wurl-Mittelstadt marriage in those Bernickow records at familysearch.org, but both of those surnames do appear in marriage and baptism records there, as does GROSSKOPF.
Perhaps by now you've found the information you were looking for. If not, I hope this is at least a little bit helpful

I have a photograph taken by the above-noted photographer. It is a photograph of three little girls and a little boy. On the back of the photo is beautiful penmanship are the names: Earle, Gracie, Maudie and Chippie Pearl. The notation on the back states tha Gracie died in Sept 1884 at the age of nine. My families, CARLE; BRIGGS; BAILEY; FERGUSON, all lived for the most part in Sunbury/Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada. This photo is in my family collection and has been for probably over 100 years.

Does anyone recognize these names?

I have family members that went to that church too. Where did you find church records for the congregation? Can you please tell me how to find the congregation list? To this day there is still a St. Paul's church on 324Oak St. Fairchild, WI 54741 phone 715-334-4763.

Hi Sharon,

Anyone whose name was listed for a birth, confirmation, marriage or death AND any parents listed for those people were included in the database. If you send me your email address, I will email you the database in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet or Microsoft Access database format... much easier to see relationships then as it is done by person and ALL events that they are included in, rather than separate B, C, M & D listings as in the printed book and on the Eau Claire GenWeb site.

Laura, I'm a distant cousin of Robert's and have pestered him for details since we found each other. I printed out some of the church records for St. John's. I see the last name of my great-grandfather with a note of his spouse on the list but no further information. What/why do their names appear given I have found their headstones and burial at another church cemetery? Thank you so very much and all other volunteers who have helped us find our families. According to the Eau Claire Public Library online lookup, her
obituary is in the Eau Claire Leader April 25 and 26, 1940 on page 2. Check the Eau Claire Library, they should have a way for you to request this obituary.

I couldn't find Anna's obituary but did find her burial to be in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery where her name was listed as GORMLEY. St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery is located in the 2000 block of Omaha St. in Eau Claire.

I transcribed the 1864-1999 St. John's Lutheran (in rural Fall Creek, Lincoln Township) church books for the 135th Anniversary of the church, and it was published in a book. It is online at the Eau Claire County GenWeb website, but I am happy to email you an Excel file so it's much easier to search.

Beware - there are errors - from my translation/typos, from original record mistakes, etc. It was typed "as is"... but it has a wealth of info and I can share "correct answers" for many of the errors that I'm aware of.

Hi Robert,

I am the person that put together the St. John's Lutheran database, and I have photocopies of all the records through 1999. HER death record in the church book shows her named listed as: Dorothea Schmidt geb. Holst

But on HIS death record in the church books she is listed as: Maria Dorothea Sophia geb. Ohlson

I transcribed the records "as is" so they would be true index of what was written in the church books... there are many errors inherent in the records themselves, from my inability to make out the old German script in some cases, and likely from my human error - although we did have others proofread, it was a lot of data. :-)

On the 1819 Mecklenburg Census (on Ancestry.com), there are Holsts, but don't see Ohlsons.

Also checked www.familysearch.org and found many Holsts in the Rostock and surrounding area, and I also found the name Ohlson in Mecklenburg, but very few.

BUT - I did find the Schmidt family for you and it shows her as a Holst!!

It looks like Blankenhagen in Ribnitz district near Rostock is where several of their kids were born... and you're in luck!! The LDS Church has microfilmed church records there from 1704-1894... Films 68963-68967.

But, better luck... many of these records have already been indexed online - for example, I see that Johann Joachim Christian Schmidt was born in 1805 instead of 1804 as the St. John's records state. His Parents were Friedrich Niclas Schmidt and Eva Ilsabe Eggers - they were married Willershagen 19 Feb 1802 and Eva's father's name was Joachim Eggers.

There are more children and other family members listed and you will find MUCH more in the microfilmed church records.

Other towns near there referenced with this family are Niederhagen & Willershagen, with Willershagen being most prevalent and very close to Blankenhagen.

Thanks for all your info,abouth the family. I also get some new info of the parents that says Kari was born 7.10.1829 - d.24.5.1898 and Lars b.12.3.1823 -d.24.5.1899 both burried in Woodland Cemetery,Washburne,Bayyfield Wisconsin. And also that ther children was having some businesses in Washburn Wisconsin,a bakery and a meat shop. says it was 3 brothers and 2 sisters,of Berit..? if so I have no more names of them just Nils (Niels Larson) and Johanne and Lars.Don`t know if you can find out some more out of this? Maybe I have to get this also in Washburne county? Johnny

It seems that their cemetery listings have disappeared.

I went to Find A Grave one day and there was her obit! She had died from a appendectomy, she lost the baby just two weeks before she died...so so sad....most of my grandmother's siblings had hard hard lives...I did contact Tina at Lennmark's, she sent me her funeral info...by the way she is great! Never charges a dime! Thanks for asking....

Sandy- what church did the family belong to in Eau Claire? The closest in this area are either First Lutheran Church or Grace Lutheran. Lake Street Methodist is also a few blocks away. You might also try Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral home for records. At the time you are looking, it would have been just Lenmark's or Lenmark and Son. Seems like quite a few Norwegian's used their services. The funeral home is still in service today.
For the death certificate, did you check under her maiden name? I know that isn't usual, but who knows. Was this a child stillbirth with midwife or physician? What was the hospital or was the infant's death at home. What was the cemetery used on the infant's certificate if that was filled in.
I think looking for a church record might be your best option. One more Norwegian Lutheran church would have been Our Savior's Lutheran. All the churches I mentioned are still in operation and have records going back this far and further.

She may have lived in Chippewa County, as Ludington lies at the border of EC and Chippewa Counties. I would suggest the Chippewa Genealogic Society...

I just noticed that your first post says Daily Times and mentions a place in S. Dakota. Eau Claire doesn't have a paper by that name, so maybe SDakota is the best place to look.
