From the Grant County Herald, 8 Apr 1875, page 3, column 6, an obituary for Elizabeth Hail, nee Hummel:
At Potosi, March 26, 1875, Mrs, ELIZABETH HAIL, Wife of Gabriel Hail, aged 42 years.
The sudden death of Mrs. Hail fell like a pall upon her many friends, and her loss will be deeply felt in our village, as she was not only a wife and mother in her home circle, but had many of those beautiful attributes of woman that endear them to the hearts of all who come within the circle of their influence. No better evidence of the esteem in which she was held in the community could be given, than was manifested in the large concourse of friends who assembled to pay the last tribute to her worth, notwithstanding the almost impassibility of the roads. These tokens of respect for the one passed away, and the deep sympathy manifested for those left in affliction will be ever cherished with deep feeling of gratitude in the hearts of a husband and family.
